To not let ds go to his friend's house because she doesn't iron her clothes?

I mean, it's filthy isn't it? The children are sent to school in crumpled clothes and she walks around like a bag lady! I spend hours ironing my children's clothes and as soon as they walk in from school they need to change into lounging attire and then carefully fold their uniform over the trouser press I have in their rooms. This has saved me many more hours of ironing I can tell you!

Yet if I allow him to go to this woman's house, he'll no doubt come back with creased clothes and will doubtless have stains over it, I mean I don't think she changes their uniform more than once a week.

Hygiene and being smart is very important to me and whilst I don't mind my children attending houses of similar children who are smartly dressed, I don't particularly want them influenced by slatternly waifs and strays. Obviously this is not the child's fault and that's not what I'm saying, but if my children see that they can get away with looking like homeless people, then they start playing up at home.

I could tell her what my expectations are but I just don't think she would take any notice, so aibu in not allowing ds to go?

If people will judge you by the way they look, there not worth knowing! Its a lack of confidence if you feel that you have to dress to impress complete strangers. Be happy and proud for beening you and not what you think society wants. There are many different people in this world, so don't judge someone because they don't have the same standards as yourself. It doesn't make them a worse person it makes you worse for judging them.

From Oldham?
That's a first!

'Twas based on a remark I overhead at the school gates, with two mothers comparing how much ironing they have to do every day because they can't let their kids go into school looking like a scrunched up piece of paper. I was stood behind them smirking to myself and trying to suppress a giggle. Grin

What is this "iron" of which you speak?

Oh I remember irons.....

Boomerwang · 19/01/2012 17:09

I'm sure my mother sent me to boarding school just so that some other poor bugger would have to iron my uniforms.

silentcatastrophe · 19/01/2012 18:36

If I am to re-use a plastic bag, of course it must be flat. Folded and ironed ideally. What kind of person uses a crumpled old bag?

runningwilde · 19/01/2012 18:47

Methinks those ladies at your school gates need a good old dirty shag to keep their mind off boring ironing...

RabidEchidna · 19/01/2012 18:49

OP you might like this look

molepom · 19/01/2012 19:11

PMSL..Thanks for the laugh and the reminder to chuck washing into the dryer.

silentcatastrophe · 19/01/2012 19:40

I hope you are adding a freshener, molepom. Your clothes will smell dreadful otherwiseGrin

molepom · 19/01/2012 20:24

A freshener? How dare you speak of such chaviness to moi..I personally prefer to use freshly picked rose and jasmine petals from my own organic garden. No chemical fresheners for my childrens clothes than you very much.

TheRhubarb · 19/01/2012 21:46

I am disappointed in you molepom, do you not air your clothes naturally beneath the lavender and jasmine bushes in your garden? And surely you fill your iron with rosewater?

Back to the ironing board with you young lady!

Yes miss, In my defence it was raining at the time so the rose and jasmine filled muslin bag was the best I could do in the circumstances. The iron is indeed filled with rosewater. I have little sprigs of rose and jasmine tied to each and every wooden handmade clothes hanger, made by my own fair hands.

skybluepearl · 19/01/2012 22:13

Do you have OCD?

molepom · 19/01/2012 22:19

Me? No. In RL I can't be arsed to iron most of the time, never mind faff about with everything I've mentioned. Just playing along as I'm bored and waiting for ds to sleep so I can go downstairs for a few minutes for some time to myself.

TheRhubarb · 19/01/2012 22:25

I make my own clothes out of spider silk, do you not do the same?

OP posts:
molepom · 19/01/2012 22:25

No, I cant be arsed.

molepom · 19/01/2012 22:26

in fact that reminds me..I need to take the uniform out of the dryer and stick the next load in before morning.
