to think that 6-8pm is a bit of an odd time for a 4 year old's birthday party ??

That's it really ......

Its not the end of the world and we shall probably go but my dc's (2 and 4) are generally in bed at 7ish.

It just seemed a bit of an odd choice to me. AIBU (or more likely, a bit uptight ?)

Odd. My DCs would be snoring in the corner. We dont do 'late'!

Does seem quite late... Maybe parents are working that day and not around till then

4 to 6 would have been better. but perhaps it suits them better for it to be at that time.

It seems odd to me but maybe one of the parents work late.

At 4 I dont think any of my lot would have been able to stay awake, they were all early bedders, but also up up early Angry Grin

We have been going to a lot on friday night 5-7 and thats the time I am doing dds 4th birthday next month. Its 2 quid cheaper per head if you do it in the week where a lot of us go for the parties.

Even my 7 year old would be in bed at 7 (normally) I'd let him go to a party that late, but I would find it odd tbh!

I also think it is quite late - regardless of whether it suits the party throwers or not, they may well find their guests are on the tired and grumpy or overwrought side! Good luck to them!

our local soft play does a 'disco' party 6-8 -it's much better value as they have access to the play equipment for the whole time rather than being herded into the 'party room' for the last hour to eat for a maximum of 20 miniutes and then run wild for the remaining 40 minutes

have been to a few 4-5 year old parties at this session and the kids all seem to cope ok (not sure what they are like the next day though) mine were always fine as a one off

Could it be a cheaper slot? Or the only one they could get? Either way if it were me unless it was a fri or sat night mean wouldnt be going

My DD goes to bed at 6pm nightly including on weekends but on party nights we have had so far I have gone down in the bed with her so she will nap and she wont be tired for the party

It's completely stupid, my 13 year old is in the shower by 8 for a 9 o clock bedtime. Who even goes out that late?

I know the parents well and "mum" is home from work by 4pm on a Friday. Dad is a SAHD. Neither of them work weekends (its on a Friday night and the birthday is early the following week).

My dc's can be pretty vile difficult when they're tired (particularly the 2 year old) Sad

Cant you just put them in bed in afternoon for that one day? Then they will be ok for it. I dont mind parties that are on later the ones that wind me up are ones like 12-2 on a wednesday or 2-4 on a monday etc.

I would be declining an invite at this time for dd2 4 it is far too late to have anything other than crabby kids.
Maybe if it was ds 10 then yes but far too late for 4 year olds.

molly - there's no way DD would sleep in the day (and she's at school). I could try and "tweak" DS's nap so he sleeps a bit longer/later but I have to wake him up for the school run.

It is a disco party (but just at a hired hall not soft play), so maybe that's why they've had it so late ?

Maybe its a private slot at the venue, lots of places do really early or evening slots where only one party is in.

It's a really odd time for a 4YO's birthday party. Are they not going to be fed until 7-7.30? DS would be gnawing off his arm by then. I don't want to bring a child home from a party at that time of night either - too wound up and knackered.

Wish my bloomin dd would be asleep by 8! It is a bit late but as a one off, it's ok. Maybe only time they could get a booking?

Yep, bonkers. May be the only time the party venue does parties (eg soft play). My ds would have been verrrrrry badly behaved at that time :(

A soft play place near us does private hire of the place ( costs more) for after 5pm. Could be that?

I did for 8 year olds during school holidays 5.30pm-7.30pm and got comments too late. Far too late for 4 year old.
