AIBU to make DC clean the loo?

DSS1 aged 15 ad DSS2 aged 10 are toilet trained, I am fairly sure (I did potty training with DSS2). However they regularly pee all over the toilet seat, resulting in a wet bum for me and untold rage.

AIBU to make them clean their own pee from the seat cistern, floor and wall.
Dp thinks I am and that I 'don't understand how difficult it is to hit the target'. They have equipment to point with so I think this is bollocks to shut me up.

NB Both live with me and I help raise them so consider that it is my duty to nag them into functioning human beings before they have to share a house with some other poor sod. Requests to lift the seat up are met in the same way as requests to not put the empty milk carton back in the fridge or leave dirty pots in their room - denied.

15 and 10 is a) old enough to lift the seat up, aim, and replace seat afterwards and b) embarrass easily.

I suggest you implement a full-on large print star chart displayed somewhere all visitors will be able to see it.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 09/01/2012 08:29

Ask them to sit down to piddle?
If they decline, I think you'd be well within your rights to make them clean their own pee.
Do you have one of those pedestal mats? If you do and it is weeish, sling it in their bedroom. They should notice the smell.

YANBU

I thought it was bad enough from my DS's and they're half the age!

Areallytiredwoman · 09/01/2012 08:31

The hallway I think Grumpla and maybe congratulating them really loudly when they walk in with their mates. I like the way your mind works - alot

My 3yo manages to lift the seat and not wee everywhere, However, he is yet to manage to actually flush the toilet after!

Areallytiredwoman · 09/01/2012 08:32

will also be slinging pedestal mat into bedroom - They will wish I never happened upon mn

I think the issue MrsSleepy is that going to the loo takes some level of concentration that can be reserved for Youtube and COD - I have actually seen the youngest whistling and swaying while peeing

YANBU - my DSs aged 11 and 7 are generally not too bad but when they are I ask them to clean it up (if I can be bothered and don't just do it myself).

Tell your DH you have sympathy(!) with how hard it is to aim but that does not mean you should have to clear it up all the time. Tell him you're happy to move that job to him if he feels it's unfair for the DSSs to do it but it's not fair that you have to.

PurplePidjin · 09/01/2012 08:38

Get a piece of fishing twine and a plastic spider. Tie so the spider dangles in the water.

I heard somewhere that pub urinals with a fag end in were actually cleaner than those with nothing in

Or paint a dartboard on the inside of your loo...

whatdoiknowanyway · 09/01/2012 08:48

My friends with boys put a ping pong ball with a face drawn on it into the loo. The idea was to aim for the ball.

Can't understand why anyone would think it acceptable NOT to clean up after yourself. Gross!

yawningmonster · 09/01/2012 08:48

I have had my 7 year old clean the toilet before, he manages to get walls, skirting boards, floor, seat and anywhere but in the bowl. It was great when he was tiny and he could just dangle over and it would go where it should but as he grows so does the pool of piss everywhere.

oldmerryolesoul · 09/01/2012 10:51

I would get them some of these

It'd be good for them to learn to clean a toilet anyway - especially the 15 year old! If he doesn't learn it now he is going to leave home and not know, and that would be truly revolting.

If your DH really has problems, maybe he needs a GP visit (I'm being serious even though I bet he wouldn't be thrilled you commented)?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 09/01/2012 10:56

YANBU. Why should you have to sit in pee?! and WHY can't a 15 year old use a toilet properly????

seeker · 09/01/2012 10:59

Even if it si difficult to aim, it's bloody difficult to mop up! My ds has mopped up his misses since he was 4!

seeker · 09/01/2012 10:59

Sorrynot difficult to mop up!

perceptionreality · 09/01/2012 11:00

YANBU

blackeyedsanta · 09/01/2012 11:16

evrytime they do not clean up, you go and meet them/drop them off after/before school shouting hello/bye darling. once should be enough.

Kayano · 09/01/2012 11:18

I have a sign that says 'my aim is to keep this bathroom clean... Your aim will help'

Piss on seat is totally unacceptable and yanbu

aldiwhore · 09/01/2012 11:19

I've been going through this with my two boys. It happens, aim isn't always on target, but they are expected to at least wipe the seat/rim. Its taken a few weeks, and involved me being on sentry duty, but they've got the message now. Its less hassle for them to clear up than to be nagged everytime. We've almost cracked it.

sickandtiredofitallagain · 09/01/2012 11:27

YANBU - I made my 13 yr old clean downstairs, and 10 yr old clean upstairs.

IABU when I tell them that next time I sit on a wee filled toilet seat I'll make them lick it clean. ;)

(I haven't done so thou.......................yet!)

Iscreamtea · 09/01/2012 11:31

YANBU! DH made my 4 yo DS clean up after himself when he missed the other day. He doesn't normally miss though tbh. I'd totally make them clean up after themselves.

seeker · 09/01/2012 11:47

Actually, coming back to this- surely a 15 year old shouldn't havle to be "made" to do this? Shouldn't he just do it automatically, like a civilised member of the community?

OffDownTheGardenToEatWorms · 09/01/2012 11:51

Why would you want to sit on or clean up anyone else's wee?

If they have a problem hitting the target then they either sit down or learn to clean it up. My DSs 4 and 7 had to learn to do this since they were toilet trained, I showed them where to look for their 'misses' and how to clean it up.

I understand thought that this is not so easy with older children who have already been badly trained in a different way. I have had a similar problem with my stepsons, they have always blamed it on each other and now blame it on my sons - even though they never use their bathroom Hmm . I have banned them from using the downstairs toilet completely [wicked stepmum]. Luckily for me I now (after 13 years) have DH on board with "I am not cleaning up their wee" and he goes in to check the bathroom and does the drill sarge bit for me.

  • still working on the empty carton and dirty pots here though Angry
