Would you think badly of this woman?

In large communal baby change with feeding areas in JL and baby us on change mat. A grandmother of another baby compliments the baby and the mum of the baby says her baby was a little fatty when born at 9lb odd. And then stumbles over her words in an arkward way not making a hell of a lot of sense. She ends up plonking dirty rolled up nappy by her babys head before scooping baby up and taking through to feeding area. She gove her other child iPhone to play on to keep him quiet. Then baby is screaming blue murder so and not latching on and disturbing all other babies so she gives up and plonks pops baby girl into her pram. Grabs her ds and leaves. She also commented to the grandmother in her incoherent rambling that she was frazzled and probably a bit blasé now it was number 3.

If you were an onlooker or indeed that grandma, I am dreadfully embarrassed as was end of a hell of a day. I do think my daughter is the most beautiful gorgeous little girl in the world. I don't really think she's a fattie bum and I love her more than life chocolate ad my boys are wonderful and I don't normally completely ignore ds2 and hold him by wrist so he doesn't scarper. He'd had meltdown in shop and I since realised is poorly.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

savoycabbage · 08/01/2012 13:36

No I wouldn't.

HumphreyCobbler · 08/01/2012 13:38

I would think that the woman hadn't had much sleep and was rambling a bit, just like I do. Other than that I wouldn't really register.

I once told someone my baby was called Oliver. He isn't. I then had to correct myself. I have no idea why I said this. Blush

Jelly15 · 08/01/2012 13:38

Bless you, you sound like you had a tough day. Don't worry about it you will probably never see those people again.

FabbyChic · 08/01/2012 13:40

Id tell you that my 4lb 5oz first born was ugly and looked like a gremlin.

I read that and thought that sounded like a normal shopping trip for my toddler DS1, 3 month old DS2 and me! Don't worry about it and enjoy your lovely cuddly baby!

ArtVandelay · 08/01/2012 13:41

No way, I'd just think you were tired. When my DS never slept I think I used to act strangely.

openerofjars · 08/01/2012 13:41

Oh, you poor thing. Bad day at the "office", eh? Been there, done that. Blush. Sleep deprivation is as terrible thing.

I love your nn, by the way. DS is also into dinosaurs in a big way.

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 13:45

Lord, no. It would mean thinking badly of myself for the first few years of my DC's lives.

I don't think it is wrong to call a baby a little fatty, cause they look adorable when they are so chubby and cuddly.

Don't worry about it. We all have bad days.

MamaMaiasaura · 08/01/2012 13:47

Oh my, just re read OP and even that is incoherent Blush Still rambling. Hope it didn't give you all headaches.

Fabby - Grin lol at gremlin. My mum called one sister friar tuck and another gollum.

You need more and/or less coffee.

Don't worry lovey, I'd have just felt empathy for you. Smile

scarletforya · 08/01/2012 13:56

I frequently admit that my 2lb 2oz DS2 was the ugliest looking thing I ever laid eyes on. He is now 8 and bloody gorgeous but back then..... eurgh! Don't beat yourself up, we've all had 1 of those days & if anybody did judge you - who gives a bleep what the perfect people think anyway?!

rhondajean · 08/01/2012 14:06

I called DD2 dobbie for ages because she was teeny and looked like dobbie from the HP films. All eyes and stick arms and legs ( she was two months preemie). DH has made me stop as he says it's nasty. It's not meant I. A nasty way, I adore her, and she is now a beautiful child.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 08/01/2012 14:20

I wouldn't judge you at all. I've been that mum plenty of times

FWIW I've taken to (secretly) refering to DS as Gizmo ever since FIL commented he looks a little like a gremlin. (He means this nicely. Sort of. Because DS has a round, wideish face and huge round blue eyes.) So calling your DD a fatty isn't so bad. My DD was a fatty and I loved her jowls and how all of her was so round. More to cuddle innit? Smile

Ribeno · 08/01/2012 14:27

Don't really understand your post. Sorry.

edwinbear · 08/01/2012 14:27

No, I would think you were having a shit day and probably had no sleep, as I shovelled chocolate into my own 2yr old DS to keep him quiet whilst trying to feed 7 week old DD and probably failing miserably.

OlympicEater · 08/01/2012 14:31

I would think that the poor Mum was a bit sleep deprived, and remember how I felt at that time.

Both mine were fatties gorgeous

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 08/01/2012 14:36

I would have thought it was a bit gross and inconsiderate if you didn't put your nappy in the bin, apart from that I don't think I would have thought anything. Anyone in a baby room is more wrapped up in their own baby to think too much about anyone else's.

WhiteTrash · 08/01/2012 14:40

I was thinking rather defensively for that mother all ready to say YABU.

I have big babies and called them fat chunks too, in the most affectionate soft way of course.

YABU to feel the need to justify your actions. Have a cup of tea.
