YABU. My 2 yo DS will NOT wear a coat and if I put one on him, he unzips it, drops it on the floor and runs off. So what do I do now? He wears a vest, a sleepsuit, socks, a pair of jeans, a long sleeved tshirt and a hoodie. Four layers. No coat. He is probably the warmest of the lot of us.

He doesn't wear a hat either, just throws them on the floor with great force. he gets a cold head and I get looks off judgy people who says "AIBU that a little 2 yo didn't wear a hat today?" etc etc

When you see a cold looking child, it is very rarely because a parent wants them to be cold.

My DS will only wear more than a T-shirt + hoodie or Shirt + Blazer when there is snow on the ground. Its quite hard to get him to leave the hoodie off in summer too. YABU

I had a down jacket, hat, scarf and gloves on today. My twin sons (6) had hoodies (not fleece) on. They don't feel the cold. I had coats for them with me just in case but it has to be snowing/raining for them to wear them. Judge away Grin

YABU. last week in the gale force winds we took the dog out to the park. Sister had on fake fur coat, I had on my unflattering puffa coat and the three DN's had on Gap hoodies over long sleeved t shirts, they are under 11. They have about twenty coats at home, the dont like wearing them to go climbing trees in. They all had thermal vest on underneath and, their fingers were purple. They just dont feel the cold.

I have given up arguing with my children (3 and 5) about coats. I have too much going on to argue - if they are cold they will ask for them. They strip down to T-shirts at the park when they are running around. I stand still in about 8 layers with gloves and scarf.

DS2 decided the other day he wasnt going to wear shoes or coat. After 5 minutes of failed negotiation he walked out to the car barefoot and coatless. I had no energy to argue it. About ten minutes later he decided to wear his shoes but the coat was still no chance.

DS1 has come out of school twice in December with no coat on and his jumper in his bookbag. Its like they have their own little weather system going on!!

squeakytoy · 08/01/2012 18:45

no OP, YOU were cold, that doesnt mean everyone else in Worthing was cold as it really wasnt freezing today.

tigerlillyd02 · 08/01/2012 18:45

My DS rarely wears a coat and he's just 2. I'm sure plenty judge but I couldn't care less tbh. This years weather hasn't been anywhere near cold enough to warrant a thick, padded coat. He's managed just fine in a sweater and hoody or thick cardigan. Children run around. However cold I'm feeling I'm sure he's much warmer than me and I've not needed anything more than a cardigan over a tshirt yet.

Besides which, since when has it been harmful to feel a bit cold?

hormonalmum · 08/01/2012 19:33

I would have been judging too op before i had my ds. There is no way my dd would have not worn a coat. However it is rare ds will wear a coat at all. I have put away my judgey pants as all children are different and there are other things to battle over.
