Tis shit, no? It's cold today, we are in the park, three dc aged about 3-8, all looking chilly in track suit type tops. No excuse I don't think (utagsn obv)

I was wearing a hooded fleece yesterday, my husband had a jacket on..

Not really any of your business what other people wear, and it is hardly that cold anywhere in the UK at the moment.

shineonyoucrazydiamond · 08/01/2012 11:47

YABU

How do you know they are chilly?

Hoodie with layers under is more flexible for playing on equipment than most coats.

Kayano · 08/01/2012 11:47

YABU. They may have been doing a sporting activity and were hot? They may have had coats in bags? The kids might have not wanted to wear coats... It's not
Like they were just in t shirts Hmm

Very odd to judge just on that alone

Sirzy · 08/01/2012 11:48

If they were in shorts and t shirt you may have a point. Or if we had 6 inches of snow but for some hoodies can be as warm if not warmer than coats!

WipsGlitter · 08/01/2012 11:48

YABU some kids don't feel the cold. Personally I can't stand seeing children with so many layers on they can't move. If they're running about they'll be roasting. It's not that cold.

Yama · 08/01/2012 11:49

YABU

Sometimes children won't wear their coats.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2012 11:49

It is well cold here today. I am in gloves and a scarf which is v rare. DS is wearing 4 layers. I promise it's too cold for just a hoodie and they weren't fleeces either, just trackie types.

Hulababy · 08/01/2012 11:50

They were at the park?
The children were probably running about. DD would have shed a coat at the park. It is chilly but not freezing cold. DD just doesn't feel the cold very much, never has done. She takes after my dad.

Big coats make playing much harder, they are bulkier and restrict movement more.

Parents would probably been sat around, rather than running between play things, so need bigger coats to keep them warmer.

Besides - if the children were cold, I am sure they would say so.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2012 11:50

They had blue faces! And just got off the little train so they were sitting, not running. And the parents weren't holding rejected coats!

CrotchFlakes · 08/01/2012 11:51

Two of my DC refuse to wear coats. Having repeatedly pointed out that they will get cold, I now go with the "that'll learn 'em" approach. They also go with the "that'll learn her" approach and refuse to admit they feel the cold.

Hulababy · 08/01/2012 11:51

Oh, and I work in an infant school. At playtime on duty I wear a huge coat to keep me warm. I have to remind children over and over again that they have coats, hats and scarfs to wear. But I can't force them to wear them if they don't want too. And many just don't wear them, or shed them once outside. Their choice - if they are cold, they will complain or put a coat on.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2012 11:52

Ok iabu!

That was probably us! I have 3 dc and have just been to the park, all 3 had hoodies on, we had coats on. 7y old and 4y old had thick gap hoodies on with micro fleeces underneath, on top of long sleeve top and t shirt, and were whinging about being too hot! (I was freezing), those micro fleeces are warmer than my coat I think. The baby has: long sleeve vest, tights, long sleeve top, trousers, socks, padded hoodies and was in buggy footmuth (but no hat which I had a go at DP at)

I had been out shopping and he got them dressed and bought them out like that, I don't know why, but he does severe layering rather than coats! (which they do have). They were all warm as toast when we got back and I unwrapped them. I wouldn't judge unless they clearly just had a T shirt on underneath.

Hulababy · 08/01/2012 11:52

If they were cold then you would have heard them complaining and wanting to go home I am quite sure.

TadlowDogIncident · 08/01/2012 11:53

YABU. I walked DS back from the cafe this morning without his coat because he had the mother of all tantrums when I tried to get it on him, and I reckoned the other people in the cafe hadn't done anything to deserve that. He takes the damn thing off at every opportunity. He had three layers on, and it's not that cold here.

WowOoo · 08/01/2012 11:53

After my son had a meltdown about not wearing his coat in a park yesterday I really hoped people wouldn't judge me.

He put it on after about 10 mins, when he realised his father and i were talking sense and he felt cold.
YABU to judge, but not to feel sympathy if they were genuinely cold.

pictish · 08/01/2012 11:54

What crotchflakes said.

Find something more productive to do with your enquiring mind OP.

sickandtiredofitallagain · 08/01/2012 11:54

YABU - my kids will rarely put their coats on. They are so active when they are out! We've taken the dogs out today and it's raining, they stripped down to t-shirts to play rugby on the field, I was wearing a fleece and waterproof.

WorraLiberty · 08/01/2012 11:54

So you wouldn't judge if the parents were wearing hoodies too?

Bizarre

Lizcat · 08/01/2012 11:56

I'm another that'll learn um mother for DH too. Last December the travelled to Paris as we were leaving the house I said should you not both take coats 'No we'll be fine' . Whilst they were on the eurostar 6 inches of snow fell it cost DH 150 euros. Still hasn't learnt.

befuzzled · 08/01/2012 11:58

Sigh, my DP is exactly the same, has about 15 pac a macs that he has had to buy while out as he has refused to heed my advise to take a coat. I don't bother anymore and only pack for me and the dc.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2012 11:59

The girl is wearing a skirt with socks and bare legs too! Shock ok iabu. But I ewould still judge if the parents were similarly dressed. It just seems worse that they are all toasty. It also seems unlikely that all 3 are coat refusers.

WorraLiberty · 08/01/2012 12:00

Are you posting all this from the actual park?

Why don't you go and play with your children instead of tittle tattling about others around you?

Theas18 · 08/01/2012 12:01

You try making kids wrap up warm when they don't want to!

Not so much of an issue when they were small but the secondary age kids (esp DS) will not wear coats!

pictish · 08/01/2012 12:01

Here's a tip: Mind your own business and let them get on with theirs.
