Because my husband thinks I am.

She is prone to bad dreams and letting things play on her mind and I remember WD being a bit bloody...

YANBU my sister cried about WD for years!

CrotchFlakes · 07/01/2012 17:16

No, I'm not sure I could watch it now at 37!

CherryPie3 · 07/01/2012 17:19

Thank god I'm not alone! I wasn't even allowed to watch it until I was 15!

Dh has just got back from blockbusters and I'm more than a bit shocked that it's only U certified.

I don't think it's that bad, lol, and my kids can be pretty over-sensitive.
But it's a bit pants, doesn't do the book any justice. So would avoid on that basis.

Gribble · 07/01/2012 17:20

yanbu, it is pretty dark and sounds like your little girl might get upset by it.

Christ, I get upset by it now!

ILoveSanta · 07/01/2012 17:21

I get upset by it now. I won't let my four yr old watch I t and he is a very hardy boy, so I definitely wouldn't let a child prone to nightmares watch it. It is bloody, you remembered right!

HowlingBitch · 07/01/2012 17:22

YANBU. It's horrific.

Chubfuddler · 07/01/2012 17:22

It is quite scary when hazel has the vision of the burrows filling with blood. I wouldn't.

I have just turned off Jurassic park which Dh had ds (nearly 5) watching. I predict nightmares. Angry

Kayano · 07/01/2012 17:23

I had to sleep with a nightlight for YEARS because of that film! I was terrified!

HintofBream · 07/01/2012 17:26

I agree - WD very crymaking. I'm inclined to feel the same about "Warhorse" -probably too upsetting for 8 year old? Anyone seen it?

CherryPie3 · 07/01/2012 17:27

Oh no Chubfuddler! Jurassic Park still gives me nightmares and I'm almost 27. Blush

I'm going to show dh this I think, thanks everyone x

Don't let her. I still vividly remember crying my eyes out at the cinema aged 7 with my mum. It was just a traumatic experience and I still can't watch it.

Chubfuddler · 07/01/2012 17:31

Fortunately not much had happened, one glimpse of the t Rex was enough to convince him to turn it off.

Tenebrist · 07/01/2012 17:35

No way if she's senistive! We had a 'film 'n' popcorn' evening for DD2's 8th birthday and I chose 'harmless' films that I thought they'd all be able to handle. One of them was Lassie and at least 3 of the girls were in tears during the dramatic scenes. And WD is much much more traumatic than Lassie! There are going to be certain 6 yo who can watch WD without a whimper, but you have to respect your DC's temperament.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 07/01/2012 17:40

YANBU! My DP wanted our then 3 year old to watch it. Infact, he tried to get her to watch it while I was out Hmm as he knew I wouldn't want DD to watch the horrible film.

Luckily 10 minutes in she got wigged out and decided she didn't want to watch WD as the rabbits themselves looked too scary. Apparently DD prefers rabbits that look like Thumper/Peter or similar.

napluster · 07/01/2012 17:44

my mum actually got us a WD story tape and after tucking us in at night she would put it on, turn off the light and close the door! Me and DB were petrified. For some reason I remember the line 'and the river was filled with blood'. I think that was the bit where we used to start to cry.

CherryPie3 · 07/01/2012 18:09

He put it on for her! Angry

In her bedroom AngryAngry

Without regarding any of my concerns that I'd voiced to him! AngryAngryAngry

So I went upstairs, calmly explained that Daddy had put on the wrong DVD and that the bunnies didn't always play nice and sine start to fight. That was enough for her to want to watch something!

Disaster averted. Now to reprimand my dh!

CherryPie3 · 07/01/2012 18:10

Sorry, should say some start to fight.

CherryPie3 · 07/01/2012 18:11

Oh god napluster, a storytape of that in the dark? Sad No wonder you cried at it, I'd have been howling! x

you are so NOT U!!! I wished I realised what a terrifying film it was before I let my then 4 and 7 year olds watch it. We were lulled into a false sense of security by the U rating. It should at the very least be a PG. It's really not a suitable film for young children - there's loads of violence and scary scenes.

AThingInYourLife · 07/01/2012 18:18

OMG naplaster - the book is so disturbing! Shock

The picture of your Mom switching off the light and shutting the door to leave you and your brother alone with a horrifying tale of bunny cruelty to bunny is quite something :o

Meglet · 07/01/2012 18:19

Yanbu. I thought it was dead boring TBH. I didn't like ET either .

bintofbohemia · 07/01/2012 18:23

def NBU. Some of the fight scenes in that are horrendous. I can see it now, rabbits frothing and foaming at the mouth, blood everywhere. Even the opening scenes are dark as hell. Has he not seen it? Hmm
