to stop DS, 12, from watching Russell Howard?

He seems to think so.

Apparently all of his friends watch it.

I just feel a bit uncomfortable with it, somehow.

all you are doing is making his social interactions at school all the much harder.

while all his mates are retelling the jokes your son is sat there alone in a corner with a single tear flowing down his cheek.

I hate Russell Howard. Cheap jokes about bums and wee because he's not clever enough to think of anything else. If your entire act is about sex and bodily functions (and don't even write your own jokes) you are not a comedian

Not suitable for 13 and under, did watch with 15 year old. 12 year old was in bed.

West Country?

But I'm as west country as you can get and I still think he's an areshole.

So, non of you watched Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields as a teen?

Or Dynasty and Dallas as a child?

bigeyes · 10/01/2012 10:23

OP why is it ok for him to watch RH on his own and not with you, if you had another tv of course?

This suggests to me that what you are struggling with is not about the content but about sharing such content whilst viewing together, so is this more about how you feel?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 10/01/2012 10:30

I love RH, and I am 28. Those of you who think ALL his jokes are about bums, wee and bodily functions CLEARLY haven't watched him properly...

DoesNotGiveAFig · 10/01/2012 10:31

Oh, and I thought the same as big eyes, it sounds more like you're uncomfortable watching it with him.

cadelaide · 10/01/2012 13:32

I dunno.

I dunno what my problem is.

I shall watch it with him (Friday is it?) and conduct some deep analysis and report back.

I grew up on a TV diet of Blackadder, The Young One's and Adrian Mole.

I can't have been older than 10 when I watched (had an old black and white tv - with a dial - in my room) and have to say, I watch now and think Shock so rude!! In all honesty, as a child, most of it went over my head, but the silly stuff was greatly appreciated.

I did have RH on the other afternoon (had recorded it) and DD wandered in, she started to watch and suddenly i became aware that it wasn't suitable for an 8 yo Blush. She was most disappointed that I'd switched off but there's no way she's watching it! 12, IMO, is fine - they'll be talking about much worse at school and tbf, the reason I like RH is because of his childish nature, reminds me of the boys I went to school with Grin

I'm 33 btw, I don't find him attractive but do find him v.v.funny

tinkertitonk · 10/01/2012 14:08

"I just don't feel right watching it with him."

Then let him watch it alone. DH is always leaving the TV room because DD(16) is watching something ghastly inappropriate, usually Russell Howard.

FlangelinaBallerina · 10/01/2012 15:00

I'm not a particularly big RH fan, but I do like bum jokes.

RhondaRoo · 10/01/2012 21:13

Grin I was tempted not to post after Flangelina just so the last ever comment on the thread was:

....but I do like bum jokes

Excellent!

Bollocks, I was in the bath and I caught only the last 5 minutes.

I chuckled twice and I thought the last "positive about youfs" bit was kind of lovely.

I haven't decided what I think yet, I need to watch more.
