I have been known to be quite precious at times, so will take it on the chin if I am.

Because you don't want to leave her? Yes UABU

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2012 17:41

No, if you would rather not that's fine. DS2 is 9, I leave him but I yell up the stairs every 5 mins to check he's ok. Or I get on with tidying upstairs.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 05/01/2012 17:42

If she's sensible for her age I think I'd give her the privacy to be honest.

Abirdinthehand · 05/01/2012 17:42

I would, but why go if you don't want to? Unless she wants you to leave her alone?

IKilledIgglePiggle · 05/01/2012 17:43

I will potter around upstairs whilst DS2 (7) is in the bath, ,I may nip down to bring up some laundry but only for a matter of seconds. I know he is OK but I am always aware he is in the bath iykwim.

Kiwiinkits · 05/01/2012 17:43

Short answer, yabu.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/01/2012 17:44

I you like being there and she likes you there, all good.

My 7 and nearly 4 year old bath together on their own and have for some time, they make so much noise killing each other playing, and our house is teeny and open plan, so I am always able to hear they are still un-drowned.

sharenicely · 05/01/2012 17:44

Yes very precious

loopylou6 · 05/01/2012 17:44

I worry she might slip or try and climb out and hurt herself or something.Blush

Thinking about it, it might have something to do with my best friend slipping whilst climbing out if the bath and landing with her legs straddling the bath and hurting herself quite badly down there (when she was young)

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2012 17:45

DS1 slipped in the bath and cut his chin open requiring a trip to A&E. But to be fair he was arsing about making potions with the shower gel. Hmm

loopylou6 · 05/01/2012 17:46

Oh no, I don't stay in the bathroom with her, I go in my room and mumsnet tidy up Grin

Ouch sparkling :(

OriginalJamie · 05/01/2012 17:47

YABU. But it's not the sort of anxious behaviour that will harm her, so I wouldn't worry.

Oakmaiden · 05/01/2012 17:47

I always stay upstairs when my younger children (6 and 8) are in the bath. I don't stay in the room, I just busy myself doing things upstairs.... I had never really thought about it - I have just drifted from washing them myself, to staying in the room and cleaning it whilst they bathe, to doing something else in another room upstairs. I reckon one day I will wander downstairs.

loopylou6 · 05/01/2012 17:48

Right, anyway am off to drag convince her its time to get out. :)

OP posts:
squeaver · 05/01/2012 17:48

My 7 yo gets herself in and out of the bath all the time.

heymammy · 05/01/2012 17:50

Yep, a wee bit precious I'm afraid, couldn't she just have a shower, then you don't need to 'hover' Grin

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 05/01/2012 17:50

As long as you're not actually hovering over her it's not going to do any harm. I'd be more worried about 'tidal waves' and water ending up coming through the ceiling at that age though.

CoffeeDog · 05/01/2012 17:51

i leave my twin 3yr olds in the bathroom unattended... we live in a flat bathroom in middle of flat all room around it so we can hear them playing killing each other and can walk past the door /hear them from all over the flat. ALL neighbours are well aware that 7pm is bath time :)

RedBlanket · 05/01/2012 17:53

I think YABU but I do the same.

jubilee10 · 05/01/2012 17:53

I stay upstairs whilst ds3 (5) is in the bath. Not precious at all.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2012 17:56

Angry at tidal waves Mildly. Also making potions out of my poncey shower gel, or getting in the bath for half an hour, applying no soap or shampoo whatsoever then getting out again.

StarbuckIzzy · 05/01/2012 18:03

I think you're being a little bit precious. But I guess it depends on what level of independence she has.

I have a dd of 7, she likes to bath by herself, doesn't really want or need me in the room so usually she goes upstairs, puts her bath on, puts in bubbles, gets a towel out of the cupboard, checks temperature of bath, washes her hair and body, gets out, gets dry, puts her pjs on and dries her hair with the hairdryer. All herself. Although I can always hear her as she leaves the door open and I make sure I don't Hoover or anything that would mean I couldn't hear her. Although sometimes I do stay in the bathroom and read her a story or play with a new bath toy or help her rinse the shampoo out of her hair etc.

OlympicEater · 05/01/2012 18:06

I leave DD 7yo in the bath, she's at the stage where she is starting to want privacy. I do come in to wash her hair though

PoultryInMotion · 05/01/2012 19:24

Buy a bungalow.

Our bathroom is right in the middle of our house so I can have free range Grin

Although I still don't tend to go far as she's only 2!
