I have been known to be quite precious at times, so will take it on the chin if I am.

I leave my 4YO in the bath but I pop down and come back up again and I can always hear him chatting.

I think I might stay in the room though seeing as he emptied an entire bottle of shampoo into the bath yesterday Angry

YABU I leave my nearly 4yr old dd in the bath on her own, can hear her talking to her dollys etc. I dont think you should go downstairs for a good half hour but 10 mins shouldn't b a problem.
But in saying that if you have things to do upstairs like mumsnetting then why not stay upstairs and keep your mind at ease

I take the opportunity when ds (8) is in the bath to lie on the bed and read a book! Grin

When DH supervises the DSs in the shower by sitting on our bed and watching the telly. Occasionally yelling 'have you washed your hair/used the shower gel etc. Hmm

This will split on cotton wool lines.

YABU and precious. A 7yo can easily climb out of the bath by themselves. tbf a 5 yo can climn out of the bath.

Why is anyone bathing a 7yo?

MrsPotter · 05/01/2012 20:23

As long as she is a somewhat sensible 7yo, I would leave her to it and tell her to call for you if she needs to.

Please, if only for my sake, it took me till I was nearly 8 to convince my mother that she could leave me on my own and I could wash my own hair Confused (she made me wash my hair in front of her to prove I could do it before she did so though) I think it was to do with the fact that when I was about 4 or 5 I completely loathed the bath, but once I was in I was fine IYSWIM

Phew that was long (and I'm not saying you do any of the above by the way!)

thefroggy · 05/01/2012 20:25

Probably a bit precious but I have to admit, I normally hover around upstairs while dd is in the bath. I have started to try and chill out a bit though, our house is small so if i'm downstairs with the lounge door open I can hear her.

My mum slipped in the shower when I was young and bashed her head on the taps so I think I have isshhoooos Grin

Mine has bathed herself from age of 5/6. I do the filling, bubbles and towel providing, she does the washing and whatnot. She can be in there for an hour, also have a toddler so no hanging about upstairs for me. She's quite sensible so don't see it as any more dangerous as say me having a bath alone.

When she was younger would do the yelling up the stairs thing but these days she's into privacy and leaping into the air if you walk into the room and theres a chance of seeing her naked???!

Upto you though how you feel
