I always thought their footwear was good quality and so I didn't mind paying the extra... I got my DH to buy me their 'Shona' boots for my 40th birthday the other month for £180 only to find the exact same boots in Soletrader for £49 this week (in the sale, original price £135).

They are under a different name in Soletrader but are the very boots I was bought from Jones, am so Angry !!!!

No point in being angry about it. Now you know to shop around a bit more.

Do you get angry when you pay full price for something that then gets put on a sale price? No reason to do so - it's just how shops work as far as I can see.

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2012 13:25

YANBU but then again, I wouldn't pay that much for a pair of boots anyway unless I had some sort of medical problem that meant I needed a certain kind of footwear.

picnicbasketcase · 05/01/2012 13:28

Agree with Worra too - £180 for shoes is an awful lot of money. Maybe they are the kind that have been assembled by night by a group of magical elves.

I'd buy a pair of the £49 if they're really nice, then you don't need to buy another pair for huge money next winter.

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/01/2012 13:30

I think it's pure snobbery people buy from there without shopping around. The saying 'a fool and their money' comes into its own here

loosyloo · 05/01/2012 13:32

this reminds me of the time i got negged on ebay because the buyer "could have got it cheaper elsewhere" Confused

BleurghUna · 05/01/2012 13:34

It's annoying but shops do this every year. They get new stuff in at the beginning of the season, try and sell it at full price, then they put the price down at the end of the season if it hasn't sold. This is called a SALE. Next year, wait for the sales! That's what I do.

redrubyshoes · 05/01/2012 13:37

My Jones the Bootmaker boots were bought in a sale and they are crap. Made in Romania and very, very poor quality and yes it was a Jones the Bootmaker shop.

SleepyFergus · 05/01/2012 13:38

God, can't believe some of the catty remarks on her.

OP - YANBU. I would be well annoyed, especially given they are the exact same boots. Not sure there is anything you can do now at this stage, but you have my sympathies. Gutting to discover that.

And so what if the OP/ her husband spent 180 on a pair of boots. Perhaps it was a special occasion, or they'd had a windfall or WHATEVER! Sone folks are so bloody high and mighty on here!

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 05/01/2012 13:39

I agree with Poisson

And in any case, Jones the Bootmaker is a shop for aspirational middle-class wannabes...

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/01/2012 13:42

Gutting? Wtaf! No discovering you could have got something cheaper elsewhere when you buy in haste is a minor irritation in the grand scheme of life

TheCraicDealer · 05/01/2012 14:39

I thought OP was irked at the original price difference (£180/£135) between Jones and Soletrader?

If I'm wrong though, it's not really worth getting yourself worked up about sale reductions. When this happens to me I just think, "Auch shite. Oh well, bought them months ago, got my wear out if them". Not to mention at this point of final reductions you're probably only going to be left with very big or very small sizes, so you wouldn't get what you wanted at that price anyway if you're of average foot.

Life's too short.

LeNameChange · 05/01/2012 17:12

OOh I love Jones. I buy work shoes there and they last forever.

southeastastra · 05/01/2012 17:19

i buy shoes from jones too, but always in the sale (they are usually half price) - always worth waiting for sale or shopping around if they are branded shoes

shoes from jones are fab ime, most of the shoes i've seen in bog standards high street shops looks like trannys shoes atm

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/01/2012 17:26

Prey tell- what in the name of Jesus Mary and Joseph are tranny shoes?

lisaro · 05/01/2012 17:26

They might be almost the same but I bet the leather isn't quite as good quality. There's a lot of Envy on here, methinks.

lisaro · 05/01/2012 17:27

LolSouth we call them that as well, and pantomime dame shoes. I thought I was the only one....

EauDeLaPoisson · 05/01/2012 17:30

Envy? What about, someone spending double on an identical item?

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 05/01/2012 17:53

Certainly no envy on my part. My boots were also £180 but I wouldn't buy from Jones the Bootmaker

RainbowSheep · 05/01/2012 18:23

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer - where would you get yours from ?

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 05/01/2012 18:25

If you don't mind paying that much for boots, what's the problem?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/01/2012 18:44

I really hope the Jones ones turn out to be better quality so you feel better about it.

I get angry because it sometimes seems no matter how much you pay, you get bad quality. I've paid shocking amounts when I was just getting so fed up with cheat boots leaking, and still got rubbish.

Honestly, if I felt convinced spending 180 would mean I could keep them for four or five years instead of a couple of months, I would do it like a shot. Cost per wear, right?

WhiteChristmasontheSierraMadre · 05/01/2012 18:48

I bought some shoes from Jones a few years ago and within 2 wears they had stretched so much that they were dangerous. Returned them to the shop, who kicked up a massive fuss and refused to refund.

I wrote to head office and threatened them with trading standards and they called me a few days later to offer a refund to "avoid any further incovenience to me" Hmm

So no, OP, YANBU.

RainbowSheep · 05/01/2012 19:18

I just feel that £180 is an awful lot of money (more fool us but it was a special bday present) for boots which can't have cost much to make at all if the exact same ones are being sold for £135 down the road - then reduced to £49...

OP posts:
GoingForGoalWeight · 05/01/2012 19:20

If you can afford £180, why not? :)
Just shop around more, get item number, I hope you finds lots of bargains.
