AIBU to do this in pizza hut

Went to Pizza hut yesterday with husband and son 5, ordered 2 pizzas and was able to have free salad as ordered 2 pizzas. When pizzas came i was given 2 plates and 2 plates for salad bar. I asked for another plate for my son as he would be sharing with husband and I as he doesnt eat a lot and the girl went quiet as if she was about to say i should have ordered a kids meal but didnt. Is it unreasonable for a child to share as he really only eats a bit and would not be worth buying a kids meal?
I have since been on facebook and seen someone comment that pizza hut dont do free kids meals anymore so they wont be going, i thought everyone shared with the kids and thats the norm or aibu

YANBU

If you'd ordered then buffet then you'd be wrong but if you only want to buy 3 pizzas between you then wants the problem!

I assume a 5 year old is going to mainly eat the pizza and not really take up much of their lettuce stocks?!

HeidiHole · 04/01/2012 15:55

sorry 2 pizzas between the 3 of you

Kayano · 04/01/2012 15:58

Pizza hit do free kids meals but apparently you need to get a voucher code from the website before you go.

They just don't tell you this.

Nearly caught BIL out but he managed to get the code on his
Phone

mrshess · 04/01/2012 15:58

I must admit he did have some of the salad which was free on condition of main meal bought

What if you had ordered 1 large pizza for the two of you?
Just one plate?

Fine if they don't give extra salad plates, but not if they don't allow you to share a pizza. They ABU.

AngryMotherF · 04/01/2012 16:00

YANBU.

You ordered two pizzas, it's up to you how you eat them.

But the staff are very badly trained at pizza hut, so I'm not surprised that the girl looked funny about it.

ZeldaUpNorth · 04/01/2012 16:00

When we went (was a while back) there was me, dp and 3dd's 1,2 and 7 I ordered, buffet for dp, me and dd2 and dd1 had spag bol. Dd3 just shared a bit of everything. Nothing was said to us, she also shared a bit of the other 2 dd's ice cream factory as she really doesnt eat much.

aldiwhore · 04/01/2012 16:01

You were only asking for a plate not another unlimited salad, seeing as the salad is unlimited nowit wouldn't matter how many plates you actually have??

We did the buffet the other day, never again, the food was great but it was nearly handbags at dawn amongst the customers, one pizza every 10 minutes was put out, for a full restaurant. The bahviour some people was appauling, one actually swooped in from behind with fingers to break his 'bit' off, thus fondling an old lady's slice in the process. Ew.

Anyway, YANBU.

icooksocks · 04/01/2012 16:03

At 5yo I'd be paying for a meal tbh so therefore I think YABU. Giving a baby a slize of pizza is a bit different imo to giving a 5yo some.

SmethwickBelle · 04/01/2012 16:07

Bit confused - did she bring you a plate? If so and she didn't actually say anything then I am not sure what the problem is.

In general about whether its acceptable to share your portion with someone else - its a case by case thing isn't it? I suppose the restaurant can sell food in any way they like and lay down certain conditions. Like in some coffee shops you have to purchase something to sit and read the papers.

If a restaurant are providing extra crockery and cutlery for you to dish up and share with they might have a point about it not really being part of the option you chose.

I've done it myself though - DS1 used to regularly have my "salad bowl" and a bun at the Harvester and I'd have a meal and that was perfect portions all round.

So a ramble there and arse on the fence!

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/01/2012 16:08

Kids Eat Free voucher available here. It runs out in February but they'll just replace it with another deal.

Ds1's football team had their Christmas meal at Pizza Hut. By using one Kids Eat Free voucher we fed 11 children and 6 adults for about £20. All of us were stuffed to bursting by the time we left.

Sirzy · 04/01/2012 16:08

Normally I would agree Icook but I thought sharing pizzas in pizza hut was standard? I often share one pizza with my sister and nothing is said

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 04/01/2012 16:09

YANBU but having worked in Pizza Hut as a manager after graduating nearly 20 years ago you would not believe the level of pisstake from the customers. So when people ask for extra plates it makes you a bit wary.

More than likely someone has asked previously for a plate to share and filled it with a foot high pyramid of potato salad, coleslaw etc basically for free.

I've had people drink a whole bottle of wine and declare the last glass undrinkable, or try the evening when i had a complaint about a hair in a pizza crust, which happened to be the last 3 inches keft on customers plate. Hair on plate was 12 inches long and black. Customers hair was 12 inches long and black, i had short blonde hair and my kitchen supervisor who made the pizza had a shaved head!

Then the chap who tripped up a waiter carrying drinks by sticking his feet across the booth on a Saturday night, then insisted we pay for new shoes, as they had Tango on them. Then insisted they were Dolce & Gabbana! Hmm

Oh and a "posh" customer who declared when presented with his bill, that he would not be paying for his finished meal, as he hadn't enjoyed it due to the cutlery being "too cold". (I kid ye not)

And believe me these customers didn't look dodgy at all, i've seen a well dressed family of 4 (two young kids) sit by the door and then do a runner without paying. Carrying their kids and charging down the street!

And you are measured on your margin so tightly in that company. (try having to count all the stock including straws at 5am on a Monday every week, then entering into a computer to ensure you aren't wasting product.) Sad

It all sits on the shoulders of the tiny team in the store, so they are always a bit wary.....

God I was glad to leave! Grin

McPie · 04/01/2012 16:10

There were 3 of you so you should have been provided with 3 plates to eat the pizza from. What did she expect your 5 yo to do with his slice?

Hulababy · 04/01/2012 16:11

As the salads are unlimited you shouldn't share them.
Pizza buffet is unlimited so shouldn't be shared.

Pizzas however are often designed to be shared. This is not unreasonable. I can't see why they would have a problem with this at all. This is the norm to share pizzas at pizza hut!

FannyFifer · 04/01/2012 16:11

If I order a pizza I wouldn't eat a whole one myself neither would my 6 year old so of course I would share.
Is that not the totally normal thing to do?

festi · 04/01/2012 16:24

I think if you bought 2 meal deals then YABU, if you had bought 2 pizzas off the menu and 2 salad bowls off the menue then YANBU.

mumeeee · 04/01/2012 16:27

YANBU to ask for another plate to share the Pizza. DH and I have shared a pizza at Pizza hut. But you would have been
unreasonable to ask for a plate to share the salad.

VonHerrBurton · 04/01/2012 16:37

Hmmm. Read post and replies with interest. My sis and bil are the types that are always on the lookout for ways to save money, do a deal, get something for free etc etc.

They always tell everyone their 5 yo 'eats like a bird' (she doesn't, she'd give my DH a run for his money...) and I think they've tried this in our local PH, to be told, fairly in my opinion, that it's a free salad bowl with every main meal. After all, someone has to clear up and wash up after every customer.

I think, even if my dc did have a small appetite (sharing Dad's pizza and free salad bowl = small appetite?) I would feel as though I should order something - even a side dish, for him.

I don't think they were being totally U. I do get your point, maybe it's a bit too close to home with my sis and her all-for-nothing dh!

Mandy2003 · 04/01/2012 16:39

Binfull - please, please could you answer me this one from your experience?? I am a diabetic and can only eat a maximum of two slices of pizza, ever. Why was I forbidden by Pizza Hut staff from buying a kids' buffet for myself? TIA!

VonHerrBurton · 04/01/2012 16:42

Do you know, OP - I have just re-read your post>

Misunderstood totally. I'm so sorry! I thought you were asking for a plate for a free salad for your child, not to put his slice of pizza on!

Sheesh - if you wanted to share one pizza with 45 people off the street, it's your perogative!

Annunziata · 04/01/2012 16:49

YANBU, although the girl (I take it she was young, probably rushed off her feet and not trained properly if its Pizza Hut) probably thought you were going to use it for the salad.

RabidEchidna · 04/01/2012 17:00

As far as I know it is up to you how you eat your Pizza, you could order a large 10 slice pizza for 10 people and have a slice each IF YOU WANTED.

YANBU at all, pizza hut staff are not the sharpest pencils in the tin though so I would not worry too much

pigletmania · 04/01/2012 17:20

YANBU at all, its up to you how you eat your pizza. I would not order a pizza for my 4.8 year old as she would not eat much and it would be wasted. Arn't pizzas made for sharing!

VivaLeBeaver · 04/01/2012 17:23

Years ago in Pizza Hut I got a child's icecream factory thingy for dd. She decided she didn't want it (mainly as she'd burnt her mouth on hot pizza) so rather than wasting it I ate it. It was a tiny, half bowl full and when the waitress had given us the bowl I'd said it was for dd. They made me pay an extra £1 as they said because I'd been seen eating it they had to charge me an adult price.

Funnily enough I didn't leave a tip.
