to take a bottle of Prosecco to a family meal?

We're doing Christmas Part Three with my Dad, Stepmum and Granny tomorrow. DH and I thought, at the last minute today, that we should probably take a bottle of something tomorrow, but we don't have anything other than the Prosecco to take. Neither of us has a car so there's not really the option of nipping to a shop to get something different in the morning before they collect us all to go over there.

So AIBU (and totally naff/cheap) to take the bottle of fizz, or should I forget about having a shower before I go out tomorrow and walk to the shop to buy something better?

solidgoldbrass · 01/01/2012 22:45

Prosecco is nice. What's the problem?

OlympicEater · 01/01/2012 22:45

I love Prosecco so I'd stick with that.

trixymalixy · 01/01/2012 22:46

Eh? What's wrong with prosseco?

Backtobedlam · 01/01/2012 22:46

Id prefer a good bottle of prosecco to a cheap champagne any day. Take it, who doesn't like a bit of fizz post Xmas?!

olgaga · 01/01/2012 22:47

Prosecco is luuurvely, but make sure it's chilled and not shaken about too much! Come to think of it, maybe there's a bottle left in the fridge...am off to investigate.

If someone bought a bottle of Prosecco to the Olgaga's, I'd be well chuffed.

You can always come here...

SiamoNellaMerda · 01/01/2012 22:48

Prosecco over Champagne every time. Unless it's a very very expensive Champagne and even then.......... No - take the Prosecco.

GeriManda · 01/01/2012 22:48

Prosecco is Italy's fizzy wine like cava is Spain's and champagne is France's. It's just that France has got the monopoly on being snooty about it

lisad123 · 01/01/2012 22:48

Just bring it here instead Grin

cornsilxkskiy · 01/01/2012 22:48

I like prosecco...have had a bottle tonight Grin

Greythorne · 01/01/2012 22:49

Champagne is sparkling wine from France.
Cava is soarkling wine from Spain.
Prosecco is sparkling wine from Italy.

I have never, never got why Champagne is so much more respectable.

I bet in a blind taste test, most peopke wouldn't be able to identify the difference.

Take the prosecco, of course.

bejeezus · 01/01/2012 22:49

Yum. I only discovered Prosecco this Xmas, its lush! I agree, much nicer than cheap champagne

hester · 01/01/2012 22:49

BlastOff · 01/01/2012 22:54

I love prosecco. What's the problem? That it's not champagne?

Total non issue.

GeriManda · 01/01/2012 22:56

Grin greythorne. Just finished Cava and contemplating if too late to open the Prosecco

France has got other sparkling wines besides champagne. Champagne is just a regional label. No idea why it has acquired such a reputation. It's like Cognac for brandy, yet no one turns up their nose at Armagnac.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 01/01/2012 22:59

Prosecco is considered by some people to be better than champagne !
greythorne when I see your name I always wonder if you live in Nottinghamshire .

RagamuffinAndFidget · 01/01/2012 22:59

DH gave me a funny look when I suggested it and said it is the 'cheap stuff'. I just assumed he knew what he was talking about because he used to work in a wine shop. He then suggested we take the Moet we were given when we got married, which we're meant to be saving for an anniversary (probably one where I'm not either up the duff or breastfeeding). I like my Dad, and the rest of my family, but not that much!

I'll take the Prosecco, thanks. I don't really care anyway, I won't be drinking much.

And if they complain I shall raffle it on here and send it someone more deserving!

Why is it cheap to take Prosecco rather than another bottle of wine? Are you saying you would normally drink champagne?
