AIBU to be fed up with facebook?

I just got a friend request from someone who used to bully me in school. Haven't every seen or spoken to her since then so more than likely she just wants to be a lifestyle spy - grrrr! Yes, I know I can refuse but why do some people think they can do on facebook what they wouldn't do in real life? Anyone else had frustrating experiences with facebook? Ex partners stalking you etc. Feel free to rant. (just a vent topic, I know it's not really the fault of facebook but a few lame users)

I think the 'people you may know' are people who you once knew but either snoop on your profile that or facebook can access your email addresses and pairs them up with people in their database. Scary either way.

I've decided to deactivate my facebook because it was doing nothing but making me feel isolated and alone so I've got shot of it.

I've also never been on FB and never ever intend to be.

Each to their own, and all that, but it just is not for me.

My DH had an account, which I knew the password for. Used to go on and read what mutual friends/family were putting on their status updates and their walls and just think WTF are grown adults doing telling people what they ate for lunch, what they are doing on holiday and what their weekend plans are?? Confused

DH liked it as a way to keep up with family we have in another part of Europe and to keep up with old uni friends, but I never saw the attraction.

Recently though he's been getting irked with the bragging, moaning, general random pictures of anything and angled shots of people as individuals taken in their own mirrors. This morning I came downstairs and found him at the computer deleting his account. :)

I had a friend request from a horrible woman who used to make my life hell in primary school.

gawd how old are you? you certainly know how to hold a grudge LOL

whogivesastuff · 01/01/2012 14:27

WTF are grown adults doing telling people what they ate for lunch, what they are doing on holiday and what their weekend plans are??

people do that on forums the world over, even shock horror on this one

whats sad about it? its just conversation, same as you would tell someone in the office, or the street

Haziedoll · 01/01/2012 14:33

Yeah what is it with people taking pictures of themselves in the mirror. I don't get that at all.

cardibach · 01/01/2012 14:35

THe problem, as with much technology, is not facebook, but the way it is used. seriously, if you have good security and only friend people who are actually friends, you won't have any problems. Random people can't 'flick through your photos', only your friends can. If your fb friends are actual friends, their statuses tend not to be annoying. I like it, I go on for about 5 mins most days to keep up with friends/family who do not live near me. I don't use any apps or play any games. If I get a friend request from someone I don't like or know, I just decline it.

If you don't like it, don't use it, but please don't moan about it all over the place and imply that people who do like it are in some way deficient.

Catslikehats · 01/01/2012 14:47

I like Facebook.

If you hate all the status updates etc it seems to me that says more about your friends and thus by association you than it does about Facebook. I find my friends' status updates amusing and interesting and there doesn't appear to be a bigoted bitch amongst them.

lborolass · 01/01/2012 14:47

I agree with cardibach, I do use FB sometimes but I can take it of leave it and can't see why it would annoy anyone. If you don't like it don't go on it, it will have no affect on your life at all. I don't like soap operas so I don't watch them, I couldnt care less that most other people love them and invest in them it's just the same ime

MsVestibule · 01/01/2012 14:50

^

What cardibach says. Use it, don't use it, whatever you want. Just don't make out you're a superior being because you haven't demeaned yourself by doing something as trashy as setting up a FB account Hmm.

I like 2012. I've never had people agree with me on AIBU before!
