to eat like a student when I am the only one in the house

can't be bothered to cook properly when there is only me in the house so last night I had tuna mayonnaise & sweetcorn on toast and tonight I'm having beans with some other stuff chucked in -on toast!

I would never eat like this when the dcs are at home so why to I revert to student eating habbits when I am by myself?

mumof4sons · 31/12/2011 17:36

I do the same thing when my DCs are out. Just can't be bothered. My mother is also on her own and she eats like a student too. Just can't be bothered.

Y Cooking Spaghetti Meatballs and got distracted, Oh for eggs on toast...

stickyLFDTfingers · 31/12/2011 17:48

yanbu - I eat toast and marmite when I'm on my own, maybe a yoghurt and an apple if I'm pushing the boat out!

Though the other night DP came home unexpectedly, so I suggested he too have toast and marmite. He really enjoyed it! I wonder why I bother with all that Jamie Cooks malarkey now...

slavetofilofax · 31/12/2011 17:49

YANBU, I do the same.

FairToMiddlin · 31/12/2011 17:50

YANBU - cheese on toast for me in front of the t.v.

FairToMiddlin · 31/12/2011 17:52

Oh yes, followed by a little snooze. Grin

RaPaPaPumPumBootyMum · 31/12/2011 17:52

Yup, me too.

My guilty pleasure is Heinz tinned Ravioli on toast with parmesan cheese on top.

I could eat this every night and mostly do when home alone.

Otherwise the toast and marmite/vegemite, yoghurt and an apple sounds perfect!

FabbyChic · 31/12/2011 17:53

I actually am not a fan of cooking takes too long. So since my son has left I have taken to eating microwaveable ready meals, I eat those Mon to Fri, Sat I have a pizza and Sunday I cook myself a roast.

Works for me.

momnipotent · 31/12/2011 17:56

YADNBU. I'd be more Hmm if you were going to the toruble of making a proper meal!

ChablisLover · 31/12/2011 17:59

Yanbu

Was tempted tonight to eat like a student cos ds and dh wanted a chippy tea. Fancied fried egg and fried bread but gave in and joined them

Love eating like a student - brings back memories. The best ever for me is cod fish cakes, potato waffles and beans.

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 18:59

YANBU. To the outside world I try to portray image of sophisticated woman, excellent cook, dinner party host, massive foodie......truffle oil abounds in my kitchen etc........

but sometimes when alone I make a cheese and baked bean toastie and sometimes.....sometimes I eat findus cheese crispy pancakes and micro pizzas. I really like them Xmas Blush

tanfastic · 31/12/2011 19:01

You are not alone. When my dh is on lates and only me to cook for I always have egg on toast or boiled egg and soldiers Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/12/2011 19:02

Love Heinz Ravioli too!

Rhubarbgarden · 31/12/2011 19:05

Yanbu. I loathe cooking. If dh isn't around to cook for me, I eat cereal. Cheese on toast if I'm feeling extravagant.

LineRunner · 31/12/2011 19:06

Ah, catgirl you can't beat a good cheese and baked bean toastie.

Anyone else got the balls to owning up to curry pot noodles?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/12/2011 19:06

YANBU - fish finger sarnie in white bread with butter and tomato ketchup is my favourite retro student staple.

fireandthefury · 31/12/2011 19:07

Yep me too.

This is why I was 1 and a half stone lighter when I was single Grin

onemoreminute · 31/12/2011 19:09

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 19:11

gazzalw · 31/12/2011 19:16

DW's fave food when on her own is mashed potato!

wigglesrock · 31/12/2011 19:19

YANBU - my husband works shifts and when he's on nights, its HP on toast for me all the way, sometimes with some crisps on the side for that bistro look Grin

LineRunner · 31/12/2011 19:21

Spooky, catgirl. My DD does that.

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 19:22

Your DD is clearly a girl of taste and refinement :)
