to wish that shops didn't sell fireworks at new year?

Every new year my neighbours across the road set off loads of fireworks, seems to go on for ages. It's annoying as both my bedroom and 1yo DD's look out onto their garden. I am a bit of a miserable cow around new year, don't really bother with it and am more likely than not to be in bed before the bells after running round after a toddler all day, so AIBU to think that fireworks should be for fireworks night only and it is antisocial to set them off in a residential area at midnight?

pictish · 31/12/2011 19:07

usualsuspect · 31/12/2011 19:08

I love fireworks and I'm quite elderly tbh

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2011 19:08

Revelry ok as long as not combined with lighting explosives. Grin

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 19:10

What about.............. gaiety involving a sparkler and some popping candy?

pictish · 31/12/2011 19:10

Indeed...I have it on good authority that disabled people hate fireworks! All of them. To a man.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2011 19:11

Sounds perfect catgirl. That won't rattle me windows. Grin

cakeismysaviour · 31/12/2011 19:11

I have no problems with people having parties, and I have no problems with people wanting to see fireworks at midnight. However, I don't think heavily populated areas are safe for fireworks to be let off in. Not least because the average-sized backyard is not big enough for setting off fireworks imo.

Bloody dangerous things! If it were up to me you would need a licence to be able to obtain and set off fireworks.

I am pleased to have found a solution that both camps can enjoy, satisfying both the need for flames and bangs whilst equally accomodating sleeping children and nervous kittys.

I think a career in the UN beckons for me.. Grin

spiderpig8 · 31/12/2011 19:13

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 19:17

I actually love fireworks and have just been looking at the Sydney Harbour display. AMAZING! Would love to see that for real one day

HeidiKat · 31/12/2011 19:17

I have it on good authority that all disabled people hate fireworks

So you really can't see how someone who has a condition which means they are in pain would appreciate not being woken unecessarily? How dare their desire for a full night's sleep in order to get through the next day interfere with NYE.

Erm just to throw cat am

pictish · 31/12/2011 19:22

OP - my mother was wheelchair bound all her life, suffered considerable pain....and didn't give a fuck if the neighbours let off fireworks.
In fact, my parents organised the village bonfore and fireworks display every year when I was a kid.
Anything to add?

TheHumancatapult · 31/12/2011 19:24

I have to say I love fireworks. Though to be fair I think there needs to rules that you can not buy display loud ones for home use .I will be watching for them .

Just to point out though suspect it was tounge in cheek not all disabled people hate fireworks

I tend to figure weekend either side of bonfire night and new year means I shall hear them

TheHumancatapult · 31/12/2011 19:26

Pictish guess good job I'm a disabled women then if all disabled to a man hates them Wink

HeidiKat · 31/12/2011 19:27

Pictish I would add that your mother does not represent all disabled people and if she didn't give a fuck doesn't mean everyone else is the same does it?

Farking hell, I had 5 mins of fireworks to round off DD's 1st birthday on 18th Dec.
Kill the bitch! :)

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2011 19:28

I expect there are disabled cat owning people with toddlers who love the fireworks. Wink

catgirl1976 · 31/12/2011 19:29

I have a disabled cat. He is undecided. He likes the big rockets but he hates catherine wheels.

pictish · 31/12/2011 19:31

Well ffs, what a stupid thing to use to back up your hatchet faced argument!

"My neighbour is disabled"

My point was....so what?
