Hate Hogmanay.

I used to sit up and cry at the bells but it is just another night after a godawful year. Hot dogs for lunch tomorrow. New calendar.

I've put a big sign on the door saying 'Norovirus'...

Stay in IFanctAShandy - eat an entire pack of cheese footballs and some chocolate. Anyway, it is freezing cold outside.

whomovedmychocolate · 31/12/2011 18:17

I agree, it's awful. However it is not quite as awful as that period between christmas day and new year where bog all happens other than people go out and buy shit they don't need in the sales.

I hate the way you are encouraged to stay up till Midnight. I'm knackered by 10pm and then stay up and am crabby the next day - an excellent start to a new year Hmm

molepomandmistletoe · 31/12/2011 18:18

Arggghhhhh..the kissing! I forgot about that crap. I HATE that more than anything! It just makes me want to stab people! FUCK OFF! and give me back my space."

I can tell you exactly what put me off it too.

Becaroooodolf · 31/12/2011 18:23

I wont be sad to see the back of 2011 tbh Sad

Have never enjoyed NYE...even when young free and single...such pressure to HAPPY I always found it a bit disturbing...such forced jollity is a bit sinsiter IMHO.

Am hoping to be in bed by 10pm!!

whomovedmychocolate · 31/12/2011 18:25

I have a really nasty virus featuring vomiting and constant coughing. Anyone stupid enough to snog me on NYE deserves all they get! Grin

SlackSally · 31/12/2011 18:26

Of course you're not being unreasonable to dislike something, but this must be at least the fifth thread saying the same thing.

No one cares whether you stay in, go out, laugh, cry, go to bed at 8 or 4AM.

Why all the hand-wringing?

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2011 18:33

Because if we stopped with the hand ringing, MN would go 'poof'!

whomovedmychocolate · 31/12/2011 18:35

I'm not handwringing - I'm finger wingeing - that's much better Grin

Becaroooodolf · 31/12/2011 18:42

"finger wingeing"

pmsl

Grin
SlackSally · 31/12/2011 18:44

whomovedmychocolate I think for that you must be allowed to hand wring.

JentlyDoesIt · 31/12/2011 18:44

I totally dislike NYE & tonight is no different. I'm at home, DC will shortly be in bed, DP is in the care of HMP Bure & he shouldn't bloody be there Sad we should be here, celebrating our first Xmas as Mr & Mrs. But the wedding will now be 2014 Sad

I have leftover food from the in laws being here earlier & I plan on being in bed by 10pm & I-playing Jools tomorrow Smile

Repeat with me - just another day, just another day, just another day...

SlackSally · 31/12/2011 18:47

Blimey, Jently, that sounds shit, admittedly.

Perhaps you can turn it into a positive that the new year marks another stage closer to when you see him again? Maybe?

dippydoodah · 31/12/2011 18:54

YANBU - can't stand it. I find it totally depressing and am always full of irrational foreboding.

whomovedmychocolate · 31/12/2011 18:54

Bugger Jently, that sounds dire :(

JentlyDoesIt · 31/12/2011 19:17

It is a bit dire tbh but yes, marking it off as a year passed, onto the next one. Wine help Smile

TongueTwister · 31/12/2011 19:22

I don't hate it but I'm not overly keen. Although this year I'm celebrating the fact that it's actually ended better than I thought it would. Looking forward to a new better year.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 31/12/2011 19:26

usually im not bothered one way or the other but I hate this new years eve for several reasons and have spent most of the day crying so no yanbu

iwantbrie · 31/12/2011 19:29

Can't stand NYE anywhere but in my own house! Even if I wasn't pg I'd stay in. My DH is working, DS is at grandparents overnight & DD Having a small glass of champers, watching tv, computing for a bit then bed for me!!

iwantbrie · 31/12/2011 19:30

Sorry, DD is with me (stoopid computer keyboard!) Blush

medjool · 31/12/2011 19:42

Hate NYE. This year doubly bad as have a tiny baby so no plans (other than to be in bed well before midnight as I'll be up to feed baby) and there's nothing on tv.

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2011 19:48

Right, hot bubble bath with crappy mag mind improving novel has been had. Along with a glass of cheapy champers a glass of Bolly. Pj's are on. Fags have been opened Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show is on the radio. Macademia nuts in bowl. Chicken roasted.

My perfect Saturday night is underway!

GentleOtter · 31/12/2011 20:09

I am coming to your house, Ifancyashandy. Grin

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2011 20:23

All welcome!

JamieAngelosMuse · 31/12/2011 22:02

I'll be round too Ifancy. New Year is so over-rated, and I think, always such an anti-climax. Such pressure to be doing something fabulous. Enforced fun is never fun. :)

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2011 23:20

Welcome, welcome! Mildly pissed pickled here, dancing like a loon stylishly (try saying that if you're me drunk) to Jools Holland's piano playing.

Help yourself to booze, don't stand on ceremony!
