Here (taken for a dating site troll)

OP posts:

Towera Look neither you nor her think there's anything wrong with a bit of casual racism or caustic sexism so just be out and proud mate, stop dilly-dallying around and being all coy the pair of you. Thing is if either of you have black friends or extended family etc they will be gutted so if you are hiding to protect them then I can kind of see why. I'd hate to find out one of my friends thought that shit was funny and it would very much end the friendship for me.

No Grin

Not yet.

I have chosen to stand on the side of non moral high ground.

I found some of those sketches funny - I cannot lie.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 19:42

animation do you mean to post like a pillock ? Xmas Smile

Pliny · 02/01/2012 19:43

Pliny · 02/01/2012 19:45

So are any of the posters on this thread who found this funny black?

Animation · 02/01/2012 19:46

"animation do you mean to post like a pillock ?"

GrinGrinGrin

Aah that's more like it AnyFucker!!

There's your answer.

As a male (and sporadic poster on PH), I wasn't particularly enamoured of the thread - felt a bit nasty and unnecessary, so I skimmed over it and went to a fascinating and long running thread on semi-viscous coupling. However, looking at this thread there seems to me to be just as much narrow-mindedness. Opinions stated as fact, blind refusal to accept differences in opinion and a desire to impose their will as the only correct approach. Surely this is just as bad - for those who seek to change perceptions of 'the narrowminded wankstains' I think you need to understand why they posted what they did and why they, others and some on here found it funny. Otherwise, you just perpetuate a 'them and us' mentality which is often the start of conflict of all varieties. Complain by all means and if the majority agree that something should be outlawed then outlaw it, but first ascertain as democratically as possible that your view is also the majority view, rather than assuming automatically that you are right.

Amused2death · 02/01/2012 19:48

I think the whole thing is hilarious. Pistonheads funniest forum I've read. The pictures are so funny, and I hope the women concerned saw it that way.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 19:49

gosh animation you are quite mysterious aren't you ?

< looks over animation's shoulder for someone more interesting >

AlleycatD · 02/01/2012 19:50

That is classic! =)

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 19:51

woundup I am quite happy to perpetuate "them and us" in this instance

because I am nothing like them, and happy for it

I wouldn't "outlaw" it though...I find that most people tell you who they are, given the opportunity

so I listen, and listen well

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 19:52

here come some more knitted foot covers

Get0rf · 02/01/2012 19:52

Semi-viscous coupling Grin

Woundup - I don't think there is any chance that people who think such things are so hilariously funny can be 'taught', and I think it is rather overoptimistic to think that such perceptions can be changed by some strangers on an internet forum. So that's why I am not holding back on my opinion that people who find that thread (in its entirety, not just the initial pictures) are morons.

I think a them and us mentality is the best it's going to get - somehow I don't think Pistonheads and Mumsnet are going to get to some level of accord and skip off into the sunset like Eric and Ernie.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 19:55

I want to know more about semi-viscous coupling

AlwaysWild · 02/01/2012 19:58

It's a coupling that uses a high density liquid in it AF

SuePurblybilt · 02/01/2012 19:59

Can I ask all the Pistonhead members currently posting why the inside of my car smells of petrol? It doesn't do it when driven, just when standing. As you're here and in the spirit of us and us mentalities, I'm hoping you can be helpful Grin

And also please explain the semi-viscous coupling. That sounds fun.

WoundUpLeaf · 02/01/2012 19:59

Get0rf - probably for the best, but I think you'd be surprised at how close the demographic that makes up ph and mn are (no verifiable evidence, but there are so many threads with similar responses on both sides). The thread in question is an anomaly and at the 'non-MN' end of the continuum but as has been proved by the posters on this thread who did find it amusing, it IS on the continuum. Granted, PH don't often have Mooncup threads...

Pliny · 02/01/2012 20:00

Yeah...maybe if I just think hard enough I'll work out why it's funny to laugh at black people for being black. That's what must be the problem.

Thanks for the lecture on what starts conflicts etc WoundUpLeaf - being viewed as a commodity to exploit (slavery/sex trafficking etc) for the enjoyment of others often starts conflicts too - especially when those being exploited decide they want their autonomy and freedom back. Last time I checked the RRA and the EA and the racism in football regs all suggested to me that the majority view (as enacted by a democratically elected government) was that racism is viewed as offensive and criminal and civil sanctions have been put in place to try and counter it.

People have committed suicide over cyberbullying less widespread than this. Presumably everyone would think it equally funny if their daughter was one of the targets and was devastated to find her picture being laughed at and ridiculed all over the internet for daring to join an internet dating site. And if she didn't find it funny they'd be telling her to buck up and get a sense of humour. For those who find this funny, I really hope your kids are never bullied publicly on the internet because you won't be able to (or presumably, minded to) defend them, whatever age they are.

SuePurblybilt · 02/01/2012 20:00

Should add, I am happy to advise in return

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 20:00

I need to know why my car steams up all the fucking time

there is nothing wrong with the heater

you Piston head sockies, make yourself useful

AlwaysWild · 02/01/2012 20:00

It's similar to the sort of fluid you get in some limited slip diffs

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 20:01

Pistonheaders can't type "all the fucking time" either

what a shame

Animation · 02/01/2012 20:01

"So that's why I am not holding back on my opinion that people who find that thread (in its entirety, not just the initial pictures) are morons."

So any of us who chuckled at those sketches are morons??

Right??

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 02/01/2012 20:02

semi viscous coupling

that sounds like you need just a touch of the ole KY
