To be utterly utterly sick of my legs and how boots don't fit!

I'm 5ft 9. I'm a size 16 bottom, so not hugely fat, not hugely tall. So why can i not find knee boots that fit?
I discovered duo boots website and ordered some, my calves are 42cm with jeans on, I ordered 44cm to be safe. They arrived today and they don't fit. They are too narrow in the foot (people with big legs generally have wide feet, no?) they don't fasten as the calf is too narrow and the bloody things are 6 inches short of my knee! Were they made for a dwarf?
Aaaarrrghh!

Evans do boots with a wider foot as well as calf fittings.

You may find with Duo you have to try a few sizes. When you put in your calf width and shoe size it usually tells you how long the boot will be.

The reviews also tell you about the reality of the shoe size. Some are smaller, some bigger, narrower, wider etc.

Good luck, I know exactly the horror you are facing but I did find good ones on Duo that fit me after a bit of a search.

Evans make boots for (please dont take this the wrong way!) larger calved (calfed?) ladies....

rhondajean · 30/12/2011 17:54

My MIL found the shoe tailor good no idea what the style choice is like though?

MissyMoo321 · 30/12/2011 17:56

new look do wide fit aswell

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 30/12/2011 18:22

Shoe Tailor have a good range!! I have lovely curvy calves (hmm) and have no problem getting boots wide enough! Mind you my favourites are Uggs which are so warm and comfortable even for my enormous wider than average feet!

manticlimactic · 30/12/2011 18:23

I get mine from Next. The only place I can get them to fit (in the wide fit). Evans fit me in the calf but are too loose round the top and look ridiculous too and baggy round the ankle. I'm not even on the large side, just have mahoosive calfs.

OnemorningXmasCockMonkey · 30/12/2011 18:26

I feel your pain. I have calves of doom and haven't had knee high boots for a decade. Evans don't go up to my size :(

fallon8 · 30/12/2011 18:28

Oh,join the club!!! All boots are made for teeny legs, unless they are UGGS,,I keep trying to get out of them, without success.

pointythings · 30/12/2011 18:30

I like Duo because although I have humongous calves I actually have narrow feet - I've had a pair of Evans boots but my feet slid around in them like mad.

2kidsintow · 30/12/2011 18:31

I love New look's wide fit range.

PhishFoodAddiction · 30/12/2011 18:32

I have fat legs chunky calves but this year managed to find some boots that lace up the front and have a zip at the side, they are so easy to get on and off. First pair I've found for ages that fit me on the leg. They do make me look a bit tree trunky but then again, so does everything Grin.

They are these- but they don't come right up to the knee.

If anyone else finds a nice pair of dressed up boots for chunky calves please let me know as I can't find any! Tried evans, next wide fit, clarks.

LoveHandles88 · 30/12/2011 18:33

Shoe Tailor are great. You should definitely check them out, they're linked to Marisota, so same as them they have a load of variety re size/shape.

slug · 30/12/2011 18:34

I'm a Duo fan and I have wide feet. Sometimes it's a question of trying them on. If you live near London or Bath it's worth going to one of their fitting rooms, they take ages to make sure you are happy with your choice.

Other than Duo, I've had luck with Timberland boots and a brand called Tamaris.

FlightRisk · 30/12/2011 18:36

Marisota/oxendales. I have wide calves for everywhere except there. From them I can buy a standard size but they do 3 different calf fittings and foot width fittings.

They may have some bargains in the sale too Xx

catgirl1976 · 30/12/2011 18:53

YANBU - I have the same problem and i am a size 12 so i dont think i have freakishly large calves - until i try on boots, then i feel like a fat legged monster. i think its a conspiracy by skinny people to make us normal legged people feel bad

rogersmellyonthetelly · 30/12/2011 18:56

I don't think the problem is the width, I thik it's the length! The duo boots have a massive baggy bit below where my calf muscle is then they won't zip over my actual calf muscle. So I think the wide bit is too low down and maybe if the boots were made longer the wide bit would be in the right place.
I wouldn't mind, I'm not even fat, I'm just built on a larger scale.

Foxinsocks · 30/12/2011 18:56

god it's a pain. I'm also a size 12 with giant legs. I tried some boots on in the Clarks sale and the dcs had to help me do them up and when they did, they managed to zip up part of my calf and now I have a massive cut down my leg lol

I haven't measured but mine must be huge.

I noticed in the Killing that Sarah Lund does the jeans then boots on top thing. I was thinking that if I had to do that look, I'd basically have to have giant wellies on!

I have no idea how people have such tiny legs tbh

Northernlurker · 30/12/2011 18:59

Absolutely proportion is important. I am 5ft 3 with big calves and have problems too. I did get a pair on Clarks sale though Grin Always worth a look.

MixedBerries · 30/12/2011 19:00

I feel your pain as I can never get boots to fit but I have the opposite problem- my legs seem to be skinnier than average. They look fine to the eye and perfectly in proportion to the rest of me but somehow, all the boots I try on look like wellies with a massive gape at the top! If I keep wearing them, the ankles begin to slump and sag but very unevenly so it looks like one leg is longer the other and horribly mis-shapen. Can't win eh?

FanjoString · 30/12/2011 19:02

I have the same problem, but the other way around rogersmelly - I'm just over 5 ft and my calf muscles must 'flare' lower than usual as I find myself trying to cram my leg into what would probably be the ankle area of a 'normal' sized person.

I've given up.

Bubandbump · 30/12/2011 19:13

Same problem - long tall Sally has been ace as a solution.. Especially stretchy boots..

manticlimactic · 30/12/2011 19:18

I got these www.next.co.uk/x492384s3#802596x49

They are so comfy and pull on rather than zip up (although they have a small zip at the bottom for some reason). They were a bit tough to pull up at first but they're leather so they've stretched a bit now and go right up to my knee, I'm 5ft4 and can put my skinny jeans on with them too Grin

It's taken me years to find any that don't cut my leg and are decent leather and actually come up to my knees. Have had to resort to awful stretchy nylon things before.

I buy Duo Ravenna - I have wide feet, fat ankles and fat legs..... they fit...

henrythecat · 30/12/2011 19:26

I hear ya - I have trawled around every shop known to man today in the attempt to find some knee high boots that will do up over my calves. I'm size 4 (sometimes a 3) and the concept that small feet does not equal small calves is apparently lost on most shoe manufacturers. I'm going to get

I think if you click on Style and Beauty (via the Life and Style tab on the horizontal top bar of this page) and look in the 'Discussions of the Day' under that tab, there was quite a big thread on finding boots for wider calf widths.

I know most people love Duo but I find the boots too tall, plus I don't really like the styling of a lot of them.

Have you considered ankle boots instead? Maybe baby biker sort of style - like these or these?
