Nah, lock 'em in the cellar with bread and water that'll sort them out.

ChimesTrulyRing · 29/12/2011 11:51

I think the DC are 5 & 7.

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 11:53

is their age relevant? surely if i judge them to be sensible enough to not set fire to each other its enough?

OP posts:
CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 11:54

not that they are sensible bt i've left it too late to organise a grandmother.

liveinazoo · 29/12/2011 11:55

dont you have a willing friend -victim- you can leave with them?

jubilee10 · 29/12/2011 11:55

I think it depends on: 1. The ages of the dd's. 2. When you expect your "d"h home. 3. If you can rely on the dd's to behave.

I would leave ds's 1&2 if I really had no choice but 9 hours is a long time. I would phone in sick before I would leave ds3.

EdithWeston · 29/12/2011 11:57

Sympathise with the urge.

But unless they are secondary school age and accustomed to being home alone, then you really mustn't. 9 hours is far too long for smaller children.

jubilee10 · 29/12/2011 11:57

Ok 5&7, UABVU.

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 11:57

ok.

the DDsare 13 & 15

I do trust them not to set fire to anything but maybe not to kill each other.

DH will be home at 9 ish but probably not in a state to be responsible for anything.

they have my phone number just in case.

where did 5 & 7 come from??? Confused and [scared] at least at 13 & 15 there's light at the end of the tunnel that one day they will leave

OP posts:
scentednappyhag · 29/12/2011 11:59

Tie them back to back in chairs- voila, can't set fire to anything. Give them a drink with a long straw if you have time, and enjoy work Smile

FlightRisk · 29/12/2011 12:01

No YANBU they're old enough. my babysitter is 13 and she cooks. (ok she hates up a pizza in the oven).

It strange how the rules have changed. I was left babysitting for my sister at 11 yo. Now it is seriously frowned upon. (It might have been though I don't know)

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 12:02

or i could just not go to work. that would be good but i might get the sack.

callmemrs · 29/12/2011 12:02

13 and 15 - fine! They'll love it

FlightRisk · 29/12/2011 12:03

aldiwhore · 29/12/2011 12:03

13 and 15... leave the bastards.

Phone home lots though.

WorkingClassMum · 29/12/2011 12:08

I think rules 1 - 4 are possible, I think you're expecting a wee bit much with rule 5.

If your reachable by phone, they've been left home alone before and they are reasonably sensible then you'll be fine and the house will probably survive.

Do you have rules about going out and visitors?

Groovee · 29/12/2011 12:12

They are 13 and 15. I used to be left on my own when still in primary school.

5 and 7 yes then they need supervision.

OrmIrian · 29/12/2011 12:13

No, they'll be fine.

And TBH with the mood you appear to be in with the world in general, they;d be better off without you Wink

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 12:17

Harsh Orm. Very harsh. i'm nice really.

abbierhodes · 29/12/2011 12:19

13 and 15? Why are you even asking? What were you going to do with them if you didn't leave them home alone? Most babysitters I know are the same age as your eldest.

Can't. Imagine why you'd consider not leaving them at home tbh.

valiumredhead · 29/12/2011 12:41

Not even sure why you are asking OP!! The eldest could leave home in a year Confused

GO!
