To wonder what parks would be like with out dogs?

Who else goes to park to at least 2 times a day come rain or shine?

Would their people camping/living there?
Would there people having sex there ?
Would there be people there doing illegal stuff there?
Would want to walk/run there on your own if you were a women?

Do you think dog walkers stop any of the above?

Just wondering really how long our parks would last with out dog walkers?

Jesus wet!! how many dog hating people can you possibly fit in one thread Hmm. Seriously do you all not have anything better to moan about! where are all these child torturing creatures! in all my dog/toddler (and picking up dog shite, as i needs be, i will add) walking years, ive not met one, lets shoot the fucking lot of em!! fuck just banning just them, kill the bastards i say Grin.

The OP is of course right, dog walkers do indeed help police our puplic parks, just the other night i asked a gang of youths, what the fuck they thought they were doing smashing glass bottles in the children play ground!! now who else other than dog walkers are going to be there after dark on a December evening! now i dont know about you dog haters, but i would much sooner my toddler stood in dog shite than fall on glass!

However on a more serious note, i think we should ban or shoot ALL joggers, i hate the way they think they own the path ways, and sneak up fucking panting behind me!! bastards. Wink

Soemthing I'm always curious about - why do lazy-arsed dog owners drive to parks? Why not walk the dog around the block?

I drive to the park to walk my SBT instead of walking round the block because I live in an area where there are lots of other SBTs owned by idiots who treat them like shit and they attack my dog. Also the cold hard pavements set her bad leg off so its better to walk her on grass.

So for me its not about being lazy, its about keeping her safe and pain free Smile

D0oinMeCleanin · 29/12/2011 11:03

The councils would have a great excuse not to maintain the parks throughout the colder/wetter months.

Our local park now has street lights in it because the dog walkers got together and campaigned for them. This helps towards stopping people drinking etc. in there once it gets dark.

Without all the dog walkers, who would find all those dead bodies Grin

fuzzypicklehead · 29/12/2011 11:16

Pretty much all of my local parks are dog free, although the pot-smoking group who congregate in the centre of my nearest park often have an SBT roaming around off-lead. (and getting cats-bum-mouths from all the mums in the play area).

It makes me sad that if I want to walk my DD's up to any local park then I have to leave the dog at home or tie him up at the park gates instead of throwing balls for him and having a great time. But given the amount of dog poo on the pavements in the village, I suppose some of the local dog owners are too irresponsible to be trusted to allow their dogs in the park. Shame.

(doesn't stop all the rabbit poo in the play area, though. have to be very vigilant against toddlers confusing it with raisins!)

LoveInASnowyClimate · 29/12/2011 11:17

I completely disagree that this thread or MN is filled with dog haters - it is (reasonably) filled with sensible people who hate irresponsible wanker dog owners who ruin it for everyone.

mousysantamouse · 29/12/2011 11:20

I would use the park much more! would be bliss not to have dog turds (or smears where the owners attempted to pick up) anymore.

I don't dislike dogs, but find it cruel to keep dogs in a city, except for working dogs who are well trained and have their minds challenged.

pebbledasher · 29/12/2011 11:28

I run everyday in very wooded London park/common and love the dogs and their owners because they're always around, rain or shine, and they make me feel safer. Occasionally dogs run up and sometimes jump up but for me that's a small price to pay for the mental and physical freedom they give me. The only way I'd feel safe enough to run on my own otherwise is for all men to be banned from public places (speaking as someone who has previously been grabbed out running - clearly not fast enough) which I'm not sure would be practical or entirely proportionate.

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 11:29

FFS if you hate dogs approaching you that much, buy a Tazer. Soon stops them in their slobbery, yappy tracks.

ditavonteesed · 29/12/2011 11:35

I dont like people knocking into me when I am shopping, maybe I should buy a tazer as well

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 29/12/2011 11:40

Do it. I highly recommend Tazers for sorting out aggressive old people who queue jump as well.

Morloth · 29/12/2011 11:53

Cattle prod is better, don't need to get so close.

I bet if dog owners thought that people might be carrying such things all of these big friendly dogs that cannot possibly be controlled, suddenly would be.

As for dog free parks, we used to go to one in London, it was always packed because of the lack of dog shit and stupid dog owners who think other people give a damn about their pets.

So I think the risk of moral decay is probably worth it. Where do I sign the petition?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2011 12:00

Parks would be nicer without people in them. No litter for starters.

PregolaLolaOnAlittleDonkey · 29/12/2011 12:13

In fact my dog yesterday stopped a man hitting he's 'girlfriend' he ran out of the park and shouted at her from the gate to 'get here now you fucking bitch' we walked her to the other exit and said our goodbyes she was very grateful,
he is a good dog and i would honestly say had i not been walking him i would not have been there and the park would have been empty, if i had of been there dogless i would have interfered but i really do doubt it would have had the same affect
[proud doggy mum]
i do not however think if dogs were banned from parks people would take to them in hoards for sexing pooing and camping, as it goes.

PregolaLolaOnAlittleDonkey · 29/12/2011 12:14

doesnt very true!

laptopdancer · 29/12/2011 12:14

We do avoid certain parks because of dogs

slavetofilofax · 29/12/2011 12:26

Our local park would be empty most of the time if it weren't for dogs. The area at one end of it with the play equipment is fenced off and would be used no more or less than it is already, but the rest of the open space would just be empty.

Every time I walk my dog, the only other people there are dog walkers, and there is nearly always at least two or three dog walkers there.

Just because a few people might decide they want to use the park one a week if there were no dogs there, does not mean that the parks would be better used if there were no dogs.

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 12:32

if people avoided parks because of dogs it would be a Bloody Good Thing. the less people and squalling brats around in quite spaces the better.

rowingdowntheriver · 29/12/2011 12:32

I love seeing dogs in parks and would miss them if they were banned. Sad to think that some people get so upset by them.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2011 12:37

There are many people/things you could ban from parks to make them better. The fact is, however, that the crap versions of those people/things are in the minority. A blanket ban on a whole group really is rather pointless.

CarolCervix · 29/12/2011 12:39

except children. they'd be so much nicer without cildren.

Moominsarescary · 29/12/2011 12:40

Maybe we should ban children, parks would be less noisy.

If dogs were banned in our local park it would still be covered in duck shit and you would still be attacked by the bloody swans

callmemrs · 29/12/2011 12:41

They'd be great

brighthair · 29/12/2011 12:43

There are no dogs in our park. They are all outside the local shop running free with their teenage owners
I am not bothered about dogs in the slightest, I love dogs. But walking through 30 teenagers with assorted loose staffy type dogs does make me a little nervous!!
