to think that people who 'enjoy' horror films are just a little bit fucked up?

Maybe I am just an oversensitive person but I find watching my fellow man being terrified, screaming and then horribly killed, with blood and guts spewing, just a bit offensive! I am aware it is not real (plenty of real stuff in the news which is just as bad) but just having these images in my head upsets me. DH says he just forgets it when it's finished - he's currently watching 'Devil', some fucked up film about a devil in a lift Hmm. Most of the dramas and films these days are about people getting murdered, getting killed or being dead. It is so mainstream.

I mean where do these film makers get these ideas? Surely they should be committed? Are we all supposed to have this 'dark' side that they make into 'art'? Where is the entertainment in having horrifying images in your head?

I remember watching 'Changeling' a few years back thinking it was about a woman who's son disappears and who is then given a 'ringer' back by the police. I was totally unprepared for the scene in which young boys (my DSs age) were shown being axed to death. Fucked me up for months weeks and I was watching it alone. I remember shouting at the screen, please tell me that did'nt happen but apparently it did.

I don't know. Am I abnormal?

I have tried to read Tommyknockers 3 times and just couldn't. It's boring. The movie was terrible.

Get Event Horizon to the top of your to-see list. It has a stunning plot with a stellar cast. Listen to your DH, the man talks sense!

Zombi · 29/12/2011 21:05

to2012 I'm now more scared of listening to the Carpenters after watching it. As if they weren't creepy enough before!

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:07

He does...especially when it comes to horror films, he knows his shit, he's won quizzes and everything.

We were reading a list of new films for next year on IMDB. There's some GREAT horrors/sci-fi etc coming out...including World War Z which I can't WAIT for.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:07

Oh God Yes! "You've only just beguuu-uu-nn"

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:09

We've sorry

boglach · 29/12/2011 21:12

Event horizon was very good actually

boglach · 29/12/2011 21:14

Oh and i am sooo excited about world war z coming out

zombies!

Zombi · 29/12/2011 21:15

WWZ, Ghost Rider 2 and Under The Skin are on my list for next year. WWZ is at the top because Zombie movies are my favourite!

I think the Poltergeist remake is out next year too.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:15

Zombies...AND Brad Pitt in one movie!

ledkr · 29/12/2011 21:18

ooo and me,i cant wait for wwz anyone know when its out? I have just watched one of my many vampire/zombie xmas present films. Stakeland. Anyone seen it?It was very good, the vampires were almost indestructable so tres exciting.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 29/12/2011 21:21

yanbu. I can't watch any kind of violence. I'm not squeamish though, and love medical documentaries showing open heart surgery etc. DH is other way round. I don't understand how he can't watch animal slaughter but is happy to sit on the sofa scoffing popcorn while people torture and kill each other horribly.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:21

All those were on mine as well Zombi. Zombie movies are also my fave...I trawl the net looking for really bad ones (Zombie Mutant Vampires From The Hood being a notable one).

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:23

ledkr It's out at the end of next year I think, IMDB has 2013 as UK release though, I've been keeping an eye on it.

notveryinventive · 29/12/2011 21:24

I am very enthusiastic about this thread.

Didnt really 'get' 1408, but I was heavily PG and tired so didnt take it all in. Event Horizon was just boring to me.

The only ones I dont like are the ones that dont end well. The Skeleton Key is an example of this.

notveryinventive · 29/12/2011 21:27

ooh talking of zombie films has anyone seen house of the dead (not the game, but the film) It wasnt that bad.

I like the dead films ie land of the dead, day of the dead etc. The best one has to be the original Night of the Living Dead.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:27

I feel 1408 is very "subtle" so to speak. It's not in your face horror. Maybe it was because of the situation in which I watched it...but I just couldn't stop thinking about it for days.

notveryinventive · 29/12/2011 21:29

Wikipedia says 21st Dec 2012 for WWZ, but that will probably be America so take that as you will.

Zombi · 29/12/2011 21:29

ledkr Stakeland is fantastic! It gave the vamp genre some respect back after Twilight

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:30

I have the Trilogy of the Dead (the three original Romero films), Land of The Dead, Survival of The Dead, the other something of the Dead Romero did which was told using a live action camcorder approach (like Blair Witch and Cloverfield), I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head...I LOVE Romero. I also have Flight of The Living Dead (Zombies on a Plane) which is hilarious. I haven't actually seen House Of The Dead, I may have to look it up. I have all the Return Of The Living Dead films as well (hides in geeky shame).

Mrsrobertduvall · 29/12/2011 21:30

I like films such as Rosemary's Baby., Wicker Man, Carrie......but not the very gory ones. I don't watch Casualty either.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:32

I hate Twilight too zombi. I'll have to look up Stakeland as well. I'm loving the new film recommendations in this thread...and also the fact the horror geeks have taken over a thread that is calling us all fucked up.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 29/12/2011 21:33

The film I couldn't remember is Diary Of The Dead.

Zombi · 29/12/2011 21:35

The only thing to ''get'' about 1408 is this. It's an evil fucking room.

notveryinventive · 29/12/2011 21:35

We've got box of the dead with 6 films in I think. Night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, day of the dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the dead (the one with the live camera recording approach) and we got survival of the dead seperately as our boxset came out before that film. Love 'em, though Dawn can be a bit slow, both the original and the remake.

notveryinventive · 29/12/2011 21:36

no sorry just looked there is 5 films in our boxset, the first 5 then survival is the latest dead film.
