AIBU to think that the shops should stay closed on Boxing Day and Christmas Day...

...so that the staff can have 2 days off? I don't work in retail, my sister and friends do. Surely we can manage for 2 days without shopping so that they can have a rest? I know that this is part of their job, seems rather scrooge like to me though.

Meh.

I hate this "you're lucky to have a job so less of the complaining" shite. It's like something a workhouse master might say to his workers complaining that they haven't had a break for twelve hours...

YANBU. I think it really really sad that after all the frenzy of the pre-christmas rush, people are totally incapable of staying out of the shops for two bloody days.

Absolutely spot on.

I agree with Baublesand... Do they know they sound so patronising?

AnotherMincepie · 27/12/2011 18:01

YANBU. There's plenty of time for people to get their shopping the rest of the year.

I think YABU, people can do whatever they like on Boxing Day, and if they want to get up at 5am and go to the sales, they should be allowed to enjoy that!

I think that shops should be closed christmas day and boxing day. They are not essential, surely one can wait for a new settee, clothes, kitchen, computer etc etc for one more day.

I feel very sorry for people who think boxing day sales are FUN. How is getting pushed and shoved around for the sake of 'that essential product' fun?

Plus the impact it has on families has to be taken into account. I love spending Boxing day chilling out with my family after the mad rush of Christmas day itself.

Yes there will always be jobs that need doing on Christmas and Boxing day. The NHS etc. People don't stop being ill because of Christmas, but these are essential services. I fail to see what is essential about Boxing day sales.
