To think the nursery stole my wine?

My PIL ordered a case of wine to be delivered to us for Christmas. Today we rang up to find out where it was & were told it had been delivered to the nursery 10 doors down from us. Either my PIL made an error in giving our house number (unlikely, they visit/write to us etc) or the company made an error in noting the number down. It was delivered addressed to DP - Dr Blythe & signed for by them. Obviously they are closed for Christmas so I can't pop round & ask for it! AIBU to be a bit peeved that they didn't ring the company & tell them there had been some mistake. There is no family with our name (not Blythe btw!) at the nursery.

Maybe one of the staff thought it was for another member of staff and signed for it and put it somewhere for them to see?

Maybe break into the nursery....?

hocuspontas · 24/12/2011 11:51

You or PIL need to be ringing the company to ask for another case or a refund.

if they have taken it they might have thought its a xmas present for the staff from some parents?? but you should get a refund or replacement

RillaBlythe · 24/12/2011 12:11

No Mutt, it was addressed to DP at the nursery. I wondered about the Cmas present, but like I said there are no families with our name there, might seem a bit odd?

SandStorm · 24/12/2011 12:13

But if there is no family of that name at the nursery how are they supposed to know who it was meant to go to?

RillaBlythe · 24/12/2011 12:15

I don't expect them to have known where it should go but it would hve been nice for them to ring the company, no? PIL v upset, 3 yr old tantruming, up in the night with the baby, is Christmas over yet??

It's the wine companies fault, not the nursery's.

They have more important things to think about at this time of year (or any time) than who a case of wine belongs to.

squeakytoy · 24/12/2011 12:16

The nursery didnt "steal" anything.

SandStorm · 24/12/2011 12:18

Yes, it would have been nice but they were probably extremely busy and it wasn't a priority for them. I suspect they've put it away and will be waiting for someone to come and claim it in the New Year.

I know it doesn't help you but I do think you're being unfair to accuse them of theft.

yellowraincoat · 24/12/2011 12:21

I think you're over-reacting because you're stressed out. I really don't think nursery staff would have time to sort out another company's fuck-ups. Go out and buy some more if you need it and then get a refund from the company.

There is, seriously, no need to be upset about this. It's only wine.

PPPop · 24/12/2011 12:26

It's probably sat there, waiting for someone to claim it. They haven't stolen anything, wine was addressed to their address and they were probably trying to figure out who it's from. I used to take a crate of wine into our nursery at Christmas time so it doesn't sound that outlandish that a parent could have had it delivered there for the staff. I don't think they have stolen it, no. Someone has made a mistake, thats all.

lisad123 · 24/12/2011 12:29

Nursery did nothing wrong and tbh it's your fault for not considering this earlier. There might have been a parent there with your name in the past.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 24/12/2011 12:49

I like the way you've managed to mention in your post that your DP is a "Dr"

Megatron · 24/12/2011 13:14

I think it's ridiculous to suggest that the nursery stole your wine. The most likely senario is that the bell has gone, someone has signed for it and stuck it in the staff room and forgotten all about it. Contact the company yourself.

CalmaLlamaDown · 24/12/2011 13:17

How do you know for sure that there is no-one at nursery with your name? YABVU to accuse them of stealing

RedHelenB · 24/12/2011 13:21

Actually how is it the wine companys fault if they delivered it to the address they were given?

splashymcsplash · 24/12/2011 13:34

I understand you are stressed but your assertion is ridiculous!

The nursery probably thought they were doing you a favour!

troisgarcons · 24/12/2011 15:17

If it were delivered to the correct address, a business address, it's an understandable assumption that a parent or business partner sent it as a seasonal "thank you".

The problem lays with the person who ordered it, giving mis-information.

There is no family with our name (not Blythe btw!) at the nursery. How would you know all the names of the children, parents, step parents, carers, childminders etc etc etc who use that premises?

Meanwhile, back in reality - Oddbins is still open Grin

MrsJoeDuffy · 24/12/2011 19:16

Love your nn, Rilla Blythe! :)

But, yes, you are being unfair to the nursery. As if they would have time to chase down the owners of misdirected cases of wine.

InExcelsisDeo · 24/12/2011 19:19

I thought she used "Dr" as the character in the Ann of Green Gables books (that Rilla Blythe is from) is Dr Blythe.

Altho that was her Rilla's father and Rilla was to marry Kenneth Ford so should be Rilla Ford by now.

I have nothing useful to contribute to the case of the case of missing wine though.

WilsonFrickett · 24/12/2011 19:23

Blimey InExcelsis and I thought I was a Green Gables Geek. Excellent work Xmas Grin
