To think the nursery stole my wine?

My PIL ordered a case of wine to be delivered to us for Christmas. Today we rang up to find out where it was & were told it had been delivered to the nursery 10 doors down from us. Either my PIL made an error in giving our house number (unlikely, they visit/write to us etc) or the company made an error in noting the number down. It was delivered addressed to DP - Dr Blythe & signed for by them. Obviously they are closed for Christmas so I can't pop round & ask for it! AIBU to be a bit peeved that they didn't ring the company & tell them there had been some mistake. There is no family with our name (not Blythe btw!) at the nursery.

actually i am going to play devil's advocate and point out that the nursery should have declined the delivery.

they did not have to accept it. If it was a senior member of staff who accepted it they'd have known it was not for them, and if it was one of the assistants etc then i'd expect them to check it was actually for the nursery, not just take it anyway

Oh we had this a couple of times when sending gifts to DH's clients - twice it was delivered to wrong office in a building and signed for and they kept it despite it clearly being labelled for someone else.

The delivery company ended up being held liable as it was their fault for delivering to wrong company - was a total faff.

A parcel was left 20 houses away for me this week - clearly had my name and address on it but the driver just made a mistake. Luckily my postman saw it sat on a doorstep for 2 days and checked the name - saw it was for me and he brought it down to me Smile

So in my opinion the delivery driver was probably at fault and the nursery may have made an innocent mistake.

There is a good chance they get deliveries all the time and don't even look at the name on the label - they may not have even opened it yet.

Thank you Wilson Xmas Wink. I would quite like to escape to Green Gables for Christmas myself.
