Fast food

I wake up before dawn and make our daughter some mash potatoes. I come back home from work after 12 hours and she's eating KFC (pause: she's one and the mash is still untouched in the fridge).
Partner had the day off and the balls to say 'sorry i was too busy to cook. Also I did not notice food in the fridge'.
The real problem here is I don't seem to be able to express my concerns about the harms of fast food to a baby.
What should I do If I'm not considered as a trustworthy source of information?

FFS that chicken has been cooked and reheated she can't eat that, is he mental?

theincredibequeenofwands · 23/12/2011 23:08

Show him pictures of oversized American children eating themselves to death in McDonalds.

Although he has said sorry, and if it's a one off then does it really matter?

Just let him know you'd rather it wasn't a regular thing. Once a month or something.

scarletforya · 23/12/2011 23:09

He gave a one year old fried chicken? ...with bones? Is he thick?

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 23/12/2011 23:11

Was your one year old daughter meant to be eating the mashed potatoes in the fridge?

What else was she meant to eat. Just wondering.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2011 23:14

If he doesn't see you as a trustworthy source of information, Google the information and show him?

Or take him to speak to your HV

Jaytee666 · 23/12/2011 23:16

Yes sorry i wasn't clear. My mind i still rushing. She was supposed to eat anything but fast food i guess. The mash was an option. But no k fck c

Oh you'd have to Google them OP

I'm sure there are 1000's

4madboys · 23/12/2011 23:20

well if you had made mash all he had to do was heat it up and add some baked beans and cheese or something? not exactly difficult!

Oblomov · 23/12/2011 23:23

Your dp went out of the house, but chose to buy her kfc over .... grapes, some ham, some bread...... anything. am a but shocked. mind you, my dh has fantastic knowledge and is a great cook, BUT when ds1 was only 1, I would have left ... equivalent of detailed instructions, or atleast a frozen home made meal, left out for her. why did you not prep more, talk to him about the options more ?

FabbyChic · 23/12/2011 23:27

Sounds like it is not safe to leave your child with him whilst you work, is there any other care available? What was he doing for 12 hours that meant he could not cook.

Why not make her meals in advance and freeze them so he only has to warm them up? Get a whiteboard too and write on it what time her breakfast, lunch and dinner is and what actually she should eat for those meals.

LordLurkin · 24/12/2011 00:00

Oblomov ..... Why the hell would she need to prep? Her partner was at home looking after their child. I find it laughable that any halfway reasonable father cant manage basic care for his child.

OP ..... Sorry is one thing but how can he not realise that junk food is not suitable for babys? I mean realy? If I had decided to go and feed crap to either of my DC's as baby my DW would have read me my fortune in no uncertain terms.

AbbyAbsinthe · 24/12/2011 00:04

Because the man is the childs father, Fabby? Hmm

Why should she have to assist him in his incompetence? The fuckwit. Sorry OP.

Oblomov · 24/12/2011 00:05

Lord, I agree. would never occur to me to worry that dh couldn't cope. he copes better than me at most things. but Op does give the impression that her dp is a bit of a ......... need guiding. so why didn't she guide?

thepeoplesprincess · 24/12/2011 00:10

Is it a regular occurance? If not, no biggie tbh. I'm inclined to take a slightly less hysterical route than a lot of other posters on here.

But while we're being ;pompous about food, I don't think mash potato is a suitable meal for a one year old either.

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 00:12

Wow I'm pleased that this thread has gone the way it has. I thought the OP would be told to lighten up and some fast food now and again never hurt. But KFC to me seems to epitome of badness (and I'l happily admit my children's diet leaves a lot to be desired)

AbbyAbsinthe · 24/12/2011 00:13

Fucking hell, princess I'm no stickler for healthy eating, but KFC for a one year old? Really?

thepeoplesprincess · 24/12/2011 00:17

Really what? What on Earth do you think is going to happen from a kid eating the occasional pile of shite?

My two have eaten all sorts of crap in their time, and neither of them are yet to die from kidney failure or obesity related illness.

AbbyAbsinthe · 24/12/2011 00:20

I'm completely happy for my kids to eat shite! But not at a year old. How the fuck would she digest it?

GypsyMoth · 24/12/2011 00:23

It's a one off?

And kfc doesn't all have bones.

thepeoplesprincess · 24/12/2011 00:24

The same way as anything else presumably. My kids would certainly have been given roast chicken at that age, and I can't imagine the breadcrumb coating with the secret blend of herbs and spices would make it that much more indigestible. Unless a person suffered from coeliacs obv.

GypsyMoth · 24/12/2011 00:24

princess I agree with you, what's with the hysteria?

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 00:28

Is it not just shite chicken, deepfried? And then fried some more, rolled in salt and given a saturated fat coating>

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 00:28

and then they remove the chicken bones

AbbyAbsinthe · 24/12/2011 00:28

It's not the chicken, it's the grease. It's the greasiest food in the world - and that's from someone that loves it. Mine were both weaned much earlier than they should have been, but I wouldn't have given them KFC!
