lots of people seem to manage it

it brings out the cynical side of me not seeing other people's faces in conversation though

Get lost.

I find your personality is laid more bare online as you have nothing to lose or gain by being anybody but yourself.

Im actually a really bubbly happy person in real life, Im still sarcastic funny though.

Zombi · 23/12/2011 22:52

YABU. It seems to me that people who lash out online usually have a lot of stuff IRL that they can't deal with so they bitch at strangers behind the safety of their keyboard to purge it out or to feel superior. Rather sad really.

southeastastra · 23/12/2011 23:03

oh no am super happy in real life, it's the rest of the human race i feel depressed for

Projection.

aldiwhore · 23/12/2011 23:05

Its easy to forget that the words on the screen are only part of a person, so its easy to be more scathing in response.

GypsyMoth · 23/12/2011 23:07

Fabby, I like you. Straightforward and honest

Sariah · 23/12/2011 23:07

I am actually much nicer on line. It would appear that the connection between my head and my fingers is slightly more refined than the connection between my head and my mouth.

Crabapple99 · 23/12/2011 23:08

I say exacyt what I think on line, I'm quite shy and reserved in RL, and a lot more diplomatic. I like it that other people say exactly what they think to me on line too. you get a far more honest conversation here, and dpn't send so much time wondering how sinsere someone is being, like you do in RL

helpmabob · 23/12/2011 23:08

I suspect most people are nastier online as it is a safer place to vent and rid oneself of frustrations in a spot of verbal punching.

what fabby said.

no pretending.dont need to impress anyone.
southeastastra you are nice.

slavetofilofax · 23/12/2011 23:14

I'm a much nicer peorson in RL than I am on here. I think I come across as a complete bitch on her most of the time, unless I can personally relate to someone, and then I'm quite nice!

mominamillion · 23/12/2011 23:15

I'm the same on here as in RL. I would like to be a bit more gobby and admire those who 'say it like it is' but I just don't have it in me.

I think you are nice on here SEA.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2011 23:16

I think one person's 'straight talking' is another person's 'unkind'

MN is a vast place in terms of numbers of members

No matter how you post, there's bound to be someone who takes it the wrong way.

Moominsarescary · 23/12/2011 23:19

Dunno, I dont find in rl people have such strong views, or they don't voice them
For example
Bf v ff
Early weaning
People on benefits

And on the list goes in rl noone I've met gives a shit if you bf or how long for, or if you wean your child at 4 5 months, or if your on a low wage and are topped up with tax credits noone ever says you shouldn't have children

Maybe because we are faceless words on a screen people feel more able to voice the prejudices

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 23/12/2011 23:20

I often get the urge to type things like "Oh FFS woman, how can you be so fucking stupid and only have one head" and suchlike, but I usually manage to restrain myself... I do genuinely wonder sometimes though, if people are actually truly so let's face it dumb that they cannot see/think/comprehend what is wrong with the shit they spew. Or what the perfectly obvious/simple solution to their pathetic "problem" is Confused (Not the people who genuinely want/need some advice and support but some of the crap people post, and is apparently genuine going by other people's responses, just beggars belief)

SantasStrapon · 23/12/2011 23:21

I don't think I've ever seen you being unkind SeA.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 23/12/2011 23:25

I'm nicer online than I am in RL... But, also, what PomBear said. Sometimes I just want to shout "get a bloody grip" so I name change but still never actually do it.

I tell people to get a grip in real life too...perhaps in a slightly nicer way as facial expressions do count for a lot.

But there's only so many times "poor you" is going to actually help someone...and it's not many.

Of course some people are total drama llamas in real life and they are probably worse online as they're playing to a bigger audience.

FabbyChic · 23/12/2011 23:30

IM straight talking in real life too, but in some situations Im quiet, people like bosses Id never back chat one because to me it shows disrespect for someone in authority if that makes sense.

Im never nasty to my children and one of my sons does say hurtful things to me and I just cry because it makes me feel like a bad mum when I've done it all on my own, I guess he is a by product of me says it as he see's it.

I just know how to stick up for myself, but I do have BPD and that makes me less emphatic.

SantasStrapon · 23/12/2011 23:36

I fall off the wagon sometimes, but I try and think what I would feel like if someone said what I am saying to me.
