Remembered to get a carrot for Rudolph, forgot to get more sellotape.... FFS! This Christmas stuff is much easier when you've got a woman doin it for you..

BIL statement for tonight.

This after claiming that he needed a 'bird' to remember his niece and Nephews birthdays.

Xmas Angry

He's clearly a massive wanker.
HTH Xmas Wink

FabbyChic · 23/12/2011 21:34

Its really nothing and surely you have other things to concern yourself about.

And to be fair women do do a better job of wrapping.

thepeoplesprincess · 23/12/2011 21:35

Why is it sexist? I'm sure it is much easier when your partner does it for you.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? wimmin better at wrapping? Not a man's job?

Where am I?

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2011 21:38

I am crap at wrapping. I pretend the DC's have done it.

Everything is easier when you have a woman doing it for you. I think he's bigging up women and making himself look pathetic. He's not saying women can't do something, so I'll let him off this time.

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2011 21:39

Actually DH is wrapping right now. He has much better sellotape than me.

aldiwhore · 23/12/2011 21:40

What lockets said. Probably it is sexist to assume that only a woman can cope with this domestic task, but more a headslap moment for him as he's saying he can't even remember the basic stuff that happens with Christmas and has now noticed the real reason a lot of women (and it tends to be women) spend a few weeks before hand muttering to themselves, making lists of lists and beginning to get slightly stressed.

Planning a 'big' event isn't a woman's 'job', but a lot of us are good at it, what I see when I read that status is not a dig at women, but a dig at himself. Its also a statement of fact, for him it was easier when a woman did it for him.

Its quite a sad statement really isn't it? A declaration that you're a bit shit and are not coping. The feminist angle should be one of sadness that this man wasn't brought up to be a little more independant, self sufficient, respectful. As a mum of two boys, I'd be very sad if one of them put this as their status update.

twinklingfairy · 23/12/2011 21:41

Not sure it has anything to do with wrapping.
It is his general attitude and get out clause.
I am rubbish at remembering things because I have not got a 'bird' to do it all for me whilst I sit on my backside and let it all happen around me.

I blame mothers of boys for molly coddling thier little soldiers Wink Any man worth his salt would be embarrassed to need another person to remind him of every little thing. Loser.

cheesesarnie · 23/12/2011 21:42

id say it but in regards to dh.

do you tell him you think hes a tit or just bitch elsewhere?
p.s-im crap at wrapping.dh does it

KittyFane · 23/12/2011 21:42

Not sexist, just an admission that he's utterly useless and the 'wimmin' in his life are not. Silly little man.

KittyFane · 23/12/2011 21:44

DomeDon agree... Don't get me started on mothers and their little Princes.

fifteenfiftyfive · 23/12/2011 21:45

Have I wondered into the Twilight Zone?

Last time I checked, having a penis or a vagina didn't make you a better or worse wrapper, or a better or worst Christmas festivities organiser...

Does BIL think that wifework is beyond his abilities / below him?

I despair every Christmas on MN when I hear about women taking over the wrapping and buying of presents, as if men can't do it themselves. Won't, more like.

fifteenfiftyfive · 23/12/2011 21:46

^ some women clearly, not all.

I for one, am truly shite at wrapping and have been explicitly banned from doing it for the sake of saving us all embarassment. I'm thankful for pretty bags.

It's sexist. Lots of people are. As sexist statements go, I have heard worse. But YANBU.

He doesn't have one anymore, that is why he blames his inabilities on the lack of a 'bird'
Not sure if he appreciated her when they were together though, so I guess that is one thing in this.
Though he is happy to miss out remembering his niece and nephew whilst laughingly saying it it the cause of the lack of 'bird'

No, I don't tell him he is a tit, yes I do bitch elsewhere. Here.
It lets off some steam and stops me from saying something DH might regret Xmas Smile

Are you trying to be funny Thisisjust?
Maybe taking inspiration from the Roy Chubby Brown DVD wasn't the best plan?

Yes it's sexist and he's clearly a nob. I can't imagine any "birds" being keen to feather his nest either, if that's his attitude.

Btw of course it's nonsense that women are better at wrapping. It's self serving and lazy.

tentative123 · 23/12/2011 21:51

is this a big deal?

aldiwhore · 23/12/2011 21:53

I am a woman and great at wrapping, I love it. I am fab at decoration. I am a domestic christmas goddess.

DH is a man, and great at wrapping, he loves it. He's fab at decoration. He is a domestic Christmas God.

Its not so much a gender issue, but a useless knobber issue.
