To think my Dad was being totally reckless when he took DS upstairs in our local department store via the....

escalator? DS is 8 months old and was in his pram at the time!

I was furious as thought Dad was following me to the store's lift. But apparently it was quicker to take the direct route and he just wedged the bugaboo onto the escalator and up they went.

Mum was horrified too.....but the DH couldn't see the problem either. Or are all men in my family just totally clueless?

Ive always taken a pram/buggy up the escalator, its worse when there are four year olds hanging off the side when thats the most dangerous part of the escalator.

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2011 22:48

I did that repeatedly with all 3 of my kids

yellowraincoat · 20/12/2011 22:48

?? Why is it dangerous?

pictish · 20/12/2011 22:48

A lot of people do it.

CaurnieBred · 20/12/2011 22:49

You would never be able to move around the London Underground if you didn't take buggies on the escalators.

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 20/12/2011 22:49

Yep done it too and down again

AnonyMaw · 20/12/2011 22:49

I use the escalator, it's fine.

hellhasnofury · 20/12/2011 22:49

I can't see the recklessness either, sorry.

Greythorne · 20/12/2011 22:49

It's fine. It was a Bugaboo. Had it been a Graco, it wold have been highlupy dangerous.

I always did it. Don't see the problem.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 20/12/2011 22:51

I don't see the problem either tbh.

FreudianSlipper · 20/12/2011 22:51

i can't see the problem and you have a sturdy pram

usualsuspect · 20/12/2011 22:51

I did it all the time its no biggie

MenopausalHaze · 20/12/2011 22:51

Big deal how? i don't understand at all - I never went any other way and nobody died!

thisisyesterday · 20/12/2011 22:51

yanbu it's a really silly thing to do

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/12/2011 22:51

I have taken buggies up and down escalators in the tube loads of times. Its the only choice in most stations and its perfectly fine.

Sorry I do think you are being a little bit U.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 20/12/2011 22:51

Oh blimey OP it's hardly anything to get to worked up about is it?

All mine went on escalators in a pram, they survived.

I know he's your very precious baby but try to relax a little. I'm sure your dad and dh love him too.

Pixieonthemoor · 20/12/2011 22:52

I wouldn't do it but my dh did it a lot for the pure and simple reason that he is much stronger and doing that manoeuvre isn't at all tricky for him. I tried once and found it a scary struggle. Quite happy for him to do it as I knew he was in control.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleepAtXmas · 20/12/2011 22:52

You're not supposed to do it, but a lot of people do.

I had a bad experience once when the lady in front of us got the wheels of her buggy somehow stuck when she reached the bottom of the escalator, so she fell backwards onto DS (she sat on him...he was about 3 at the time). Everybody behind us started falling over too until somebody had the presence of mind to hit the emergency stop button.

It could have been so bad, but luckily everybody was OK.

having seen someone lose hold of a pram on an escalator and drop it to the bottom I think it's a really stupid thing to do, especially if there is a lift available.

it only takes someone jostling you a bit or you lose grip of the pram... not good

perplexedpirate · 20/12/2011 22:52

I did it all the time and still see lots of people doing it. It's safer than the stairs because at least you only have to find your balance once on an escalator.
Although if a lift was available I would probably use that just for ease.

never done it, would never do it

Northernlurker · 20/12/2011 22:53

Presumably he was strapped in and your dad was securing and balancing the pram? You are way over-reacting here.
