to think I might be pregnant despite not having sex since my last period?

I am going mad aren't I?

I have not had sex since before me last (heavy, 4 day long) period. That period was totally normal. It arrived bang on time and was exactly the same as all my periods. I seriously doubt it was implantation bleeding given how heavy it was and how long it lasted.

Before that period I had only had unprotected sex once, early in my cycle (so eight weeks ago) when my Persona said it was safe.

For the last few weeks I have had a very specific kind of nausea. The kind I have only experienced when pregnant. I have thrown up after drinking alcohol (this has only previously happened when pregnant). My boobs hurt. I am tired. I have constant mild period pains (another symptom of early pregnancy for me). I have not even thought of testing because that would be madness wouldn't it????

How could I possibly be pregnant when I have not missed a period, have not had sex this cycle (so would have to be eight weeks pregnant already) and the sex I had was eight weeks ago at a non-fertile part of my cycle?

Should I test or would that be a sign of paranoia?

You could be pregnant if you have (for instance) masturbated yourself straight after your DP. Not likely but not impossible either. I think if you feel like you're pregnant you probably are to be honest. POAS.

Yulewithadragontattoo · 20/12/2011 17:22

Could also be the explanation for the 5 months after last sex pregnancy.

ladderinmyxmasstocking · 20/12/2011 17:46

I seem to have really worried people with this story Xmas Grin.

Unfortunately I can't ask the dr about it again as she's stopped practising due to illness. I assumed she had heard about the case at a gynae conference, probably presented as a "one-in-a-billion medical marvel" type thing, however I also think one of the other explanations is more likely. She only mentioned it in passing while she was trying to convince me I needed to use contraception even when bf. Obviously now I wish I'd questioned her about it!

Were there 3 wise men and a virgin?

VeryLittleGravyOnMeXmasDinner · 20/12/2011 18:06

well, no-one's obviously read my post

DoesNotGiveAFig · 20/12/2011 18:10

I did very, 5 weeks not months!

Have we done a test yet?

Every month I get preggo symptoms with my period (deffo not!) Nausea/puking in yon mornings (brushing of teeth aggravates) sore boobs, spots ektc. Hormones are funny things. I'm on the pill too.

EdithWeston · 20/12/2011 18:30

I started off thinking that it was really unlikely you would be PG if you'd had a normal period since last unprotected sex.

But as sperm can live considerably longer in vivo than in vitro (by some days) then the pre-ovulatory part of the cycle is always risky. Do you check for other signs of ovulation?

POAS is the only way to know.

It'll be Schroedinger's kittens until then - better to know.

Dawndonnathatchristmasiscoming · 20/12/2011 18:45

I'm another that had periods, normal ones, all the way through my pregnancy with Ds1 and for 3 months with Ds 2.

ladderinmyxmasstocking · 20/12/2011 21:24

Sorry, very, I did read your post and skimmed the link, which seemed to refer to delayed implantation of a ivf embryo. I doubt whether my dr would have brought that up as an argument for needing to use contraception.

However it is entirely possible that I am misremembering what the dr said or misunderstood her at the time, as I was extremely sleep-deprived and she was speaking a language which, although I am more or less fluent in it, is not my native tongue. It is also possible that she was told the story by a colleague and completely missed that it was meant ironically (since she seemed to take me seriously every time I said something jokingly).

I still want to know the results after OP poas, though!

RomanChristingle · 20/12/2011 21:36

It's definitely possible. Sometimes your hormone levels aren't high enough early on to stop your period. People can also have heavy bleeding in pregnancys without miscarrying. Yours may have coincidentally been at the same time your period was due. You won't know unless you test.

Dozer · 20/12/2011 21:41

Just do a test fgs, can't abide the "need DH to be there / couldn't concentrate on work / am-I-aren't-I", you're being a drama queen.

stubborncow · 20/12/2011 21:46

I can totally relate to why you'd come on here to "wonder out loud".
When I had a "am I pregnant?" moment, I came on to a message board (not here!) to wonder about it and I was also all over various pregnancy and baby websites, googling stuff about symptoms and trimesters and even doing those joke "online pregnancy tests" as I was not in a position to go straight out and POAS but my mind could only focus on the "am I, am I not". I wasn't being a drama queen - just indulging my mind a bit so I relate to the OP.

I am also with all those who say go and POAS as I reckon you'll be unfocussed if you don't. Could you do a live POAS with your OH on the other end of the 'phone?

whackamole · 20/12/2011 21:52

I was 2 weeks late early on this year and knew I wasn't pregnant as I hadn't had unprotected sex.

However, as you are obviously not relying on contraception and are relying on knowing your body, you could be. Same as my body made my period 2 weeks late for no good reason, yours could have ovulated early.

But just do a test FGS they are £3 in Tesco.

soandsosmummy · 20/12/2011 21:55

POAS and hope you get the result you want. You might as well get it over with as if its negative you can relax and if its positive you can stop wondering and start deciding what you want to do next.

I had a friend at primary school. Her mother told us that she never knew she was pregnant until she started getting very severe stomach pains and back ache. It turned out she was in labour and my friend was born 4 hours later.

hiddenhome · 20/12/2011 23:30

I conceived just before my period and started it as normal. Had pms and everything. My period then suddenly stopped and I started getting pregnancy symptoms. Had a couple of faintly positive tests then symptoms stopped and must have had an early miscarriage. Started bleeding heavily about a week later.

TheTruthNothingButTheTruth · 20/12/2011 23:36

Definitely pregnant, no doubt about it.

differentnameforthis · 21/12/2011 00:42

I don't want a third DC. So if it was positive I would panic

Well then, you shouldn't have had unprotected sex, even if it was deemed a 'safe' time to do so.

SenseofEntitlement · 21/12/2011 00:52

I always found that doing a test made my period start. It would be that quick - I would do the test and see it was negative, then my period would start within ten minutes. It must have been the relief.

hippysair · 22/12/2011 10:35

have you done a test yet OP?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 22/12/2011 10:41

Ignore all the grumpy posters OP, I have used my Amazing Psychic Abilities and am happy to confirm that you will soon be giving birth to a bouncing baby giraffe. Or a polar bear.

SaggyHairyArse · 22/12/2011 11:52

I want to know if the OP has POAS yet?????

Yulewithadragontattoo · 22/12/2011 12:22

So do I, so do I! What was the outcome OP?
