... vomited early this morning? She seems much, much better already. you know how they perk up...

I was thinking, if she sat in the trolley seat (she is 6yo but tiny!) and i put gloves on her so she doesnt touch anything/ spread germs.

i would never take her to visit people until 48 hours later, but i figured that if she's not in a confined place and doesnt touch anything that others will touch, then we might be ok to do a quick shop.

what dyou think?

I think i would rather not cath a D&V bug this close to xmas, so tell me what shop you're going to and I will avoid it!

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2011 09:40

YABU

She's still going to touch her mouth at some point, then grip the trolley.

Is there no-one who can look after her or go to the shops for you?

PattySimcox · 20/12/2011 09:40

I'd be worried about her vomiting in the shop tbh.

You'd have a poorly child possibly both be covered in it have to abandon trolley etc. Not to mention passing it onto others can't remember if this kind of thing is airborne.

noonar · 20/12/2011 09:40

but nancy, isnt it spread by touch/ bodily fluids?

OP posts:
noonar · 20/12/2011 09:41

this post is really about whether or not it is airborne, i didnt think it was, hence my thread.

MunchingNoPickles · 20/12/2011 09:41

Is shopping today really that important, they can sink as quickly as the bounce back.

ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2011 09:45

I think YABU and selfish.

noonar · 20/12/2011 09:46

worra, i dont think she'd put a gloved hand in her mouth.

i am a very considerate person re spreading illnesses, honestly, hence this thread to get a bit of perspective.

ok, lets assume i dont go today, its going to be really hard to avoid the shops altogether for the full 48 hours that she would be absent from school for.

OP posts:
noonar · 20/12/2011 09:47

why am i being selfish to ask if i am taking adequate precautions?

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2011 09:48

Well take her out then, and to hell with the consequences. Why bother asking if you've made your mind up already and don't care what might happen because it's more convenient for you to go today?

StepfordWannabe · 20/12/2011 09:48

two words - Tesco online.

Save yourself the hassle, and keep your DD at home for some rest.

nancy75 · 20/12/2011 09:50

Agree with ShatnersBassoon , you are obviously going today no matter what!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/12/2011 09:50

I don't think a d&v bug is likely to be airborne. Tbh, if she's thrown up only once, and doesn't throw up again, or have the runs, before you go out, then I would take her. I probably wouldn't put her in gloves - I'd pick up a pack of anti-bacterial wipes on the way round the supermarket, and give the trolley a good wipe with them when you take her out of it.

And I don't think you are being selfish to ask this question.

sweetsantababy · 20/12/2011 09:52

Shes only vomited once and is fine. Take her.

TararaBOOMdeay · 20/12/2011 09:52

As long as she's not likely to chuck again and if she seems otherwise well, I'd do it (although I would admit to being fairly lax about these things Xmas Blush )

We don't live in a sterile environment, like it or not there are germs all around us.
I do wonder how the human race has made it this far in evolution if we can't cope without everything having to be hygienic and quarantined at the first sign of bacteria. Hmm

noonar · 20/12/2011 09:52

thanks SDT.

nancy/ shatners, what have i said that makes you think i am selfishly ignoring the advice on here?

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/12/2011 09:52

Also, if she throws up just once, and has no other symptoms - ie temperature, diarrhoea - then I'd say it's unlikely she is ill, and more likely that something has disagreed with her.

noonar · 20/12/2011 09:55

SDT she went to a party last night, and both she and dd1 said that the ice cream had ice crystals in it. they are quite knowledegable about this subject, strangely, as we got sick on holiday after visiting an ice cream parlour.

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2011 09:55

I didn't say you were selfishly ignoring the advice offered here. I think you're selfish for not postponing your trip to the supermarket.

noonar · 20/12/2011 09:58

but i havent said that i am going!

if you'd said "it WOULD be selfish to go" then i would accept your view. dont tell me i'm selfish just for posting!

OP posts:
toddlerama · 20/12/2011 09:58

She hasn't said she wont postpone! She was asking if she should!

Personally, I probably would. You can't hide from germs and if she's young enough to wedge in the seat she wont get tired and start flopping around the shop.

toddlerama · 20/12/2011 10:00

x-post op.

Don't kid yourself that everyone stays home when they're ill. They don't. The majority of people have a strange pride in hauling themselves about half dead and don't consider infecting others at all, so you can't protect the thousands of others going through the supermarket from germs by not going.

If it was a classroom or a workplace I would say stay home because it's a smaller, more confined group. But a supermarket?? They're filthy already!!

perceptionreality · 20/12/2011 10:02

Don't worry noonar - people like to pile in and have a go on AIBU.

Surely if she's only been sick once she may not even have a d&v bug.

And for those saying tesco online - there are no slots available til after Christmas now.

DorisIsMerryOnChristmasSprits · 20/12/2011 10:05

YABU especially when other options are available.

Online shopping / friends neighbours.

Rotavirus has an airborne spread, and you have no idea whta your dd has you just want confirmation that you're right thank you very much.

DD3 was sick once then not sick again til 40hrs later with no other symptoms (she's 2 ) she then started with loose nappies and another vomit etc.

I now have the same thing, I was ill sunday felt better for most of yesterday and strted eating normally and symptoms have recurred. I have no intention of making someone else's christmas shit (quite literally) just so I can get things from the supermarket.

Hey Ho there's a reason ther's always " a lot of it about". It's largely because people are too selfish to quaratine themselves until symptoms have passed.

perceptionreality · 20/12/2011 10:08

online slots are no longer available til after Christmas

ah but people should just stay at home and starve if they are ill, after all it's for the greater good of humanity.
