To get the arse about this?

PIL came for lunch at the weekend. FIL is a difficult character and practically the first thing he said as he arrived was "do you still believe in Father Christmas?" He addressed the question to the DCs who are twelve and ten. Now fair enough the elder probably doesn't......but still.

WIBU to get the arse and go to the kitchen to neck a glass of wine compose myself whilst rattling saucepans?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 20/12/2011 11:11

personally, I'd take umbridge.

ujjayi · 20/12/2011 11:17

Mardy is an excellent word. Should come between miffed and hump as there is still time for recovery from a Mardy episode.

How about when someone has a "gob on" or "face like a slapped arse" mode?

I feel that umbridge definitely requires bosom hoiking.

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 20/12/2011 11:25

Where does "livid" come in the scale? I generally find that's accompanied by cats bum mouth.

lazarusinNazareth · 20/12/2011 12:21

Is he a Christian? I would have asked him if he still believed in Jesus....

LordOfTheFlies · 20/12/2011 12:28

ujjayi in Glasgow we had A face like a well skelped babies' arse.

Disclaimer: that was years ago,Blush

Mardy isn't really on the list, as that's a general state of mind. One is more likely to become peeved, cheesed off, or even get the arse if one was mardy to begin with.

Surely we've missed 'in high dudgeon'? That's before 'livid', but definitely worse than getting the massive arse.

Xmas Grin
DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 20/12/2011 13:43

OK, so here is my revised definitive suggested hierarchy of Christmas sulking:

Peeved
Miffed
Narked
Cheesed off
Has the hump
Has the arse
Has the massive arse
In high dudgeon
Spitting feathers
Apoplectic

Secrecy · 20/12/2011 13:49

Don't forget 'gone nuclear'...

ColdTurkeyRemains · 20/12/2011 14:05

Bullistic?

And move peeved or the kitten gets it.

On your head, Manatee.

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 20/12/2011 14:20

ChaoticTurkey mentioned Irked on another thread. That needs classification too.

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 20/12/2011 14:26

Whare are you suggesting peeved goes, ChaoticTurkey? After miffed?

Alright then.

Irked
Miffed
Narked
Peeved
Cheesed off
Has the hump
Has the arse
Has the massive arse
In high dudgeon
Spitting feathers
Ballistic
Apoplectic

fuzzynavel · 20/12/2011 14:39

Fucked Off

ViviPrudolf · 20/12/2011 14:40

Irked

In high dudgeon
Spitting feathers
Ballistic
Apoplectic
Homicidal

FahQuenelleItsNearlyChristmas · 20/12/2011 14:44

Piqued?

Slightly less pissed off than Irked I suppose.

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 20/12/2011 14:46

I concur with the current list well done Viv.

complexnumber · 20/12/2011 14:53

Isn't there a case for the understatement after 'livid' and 'ballistic'.

Shouldn't it revert back to 'Was not a very happy bunny'

ViviPrudolf · 20/12/2011 14:55

yes I like that seething subtlety, complex

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 20/12/2011 14:55

I would proposed that 'fucked off' goes between 'has the arse' and 'has the massive arse'.

EduStuckUpTheChimney · 20/12/2011 17:08

What about 'pigged off'? My Nan always gets pigged off.

Irked
Miffed
Narked
Peeved
Cheesed off
Has the hump
Pigged off
Has the arse
Has the massive arse
In high dudgeon
Spitting feathers
Ballistic
Apoplectic
Homicidal

ColdTrukeyRemains · 20/12/2011 17:10

It's bullistic.

«grins at the irony of me pointing out spelling errors»

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 20/12/2011 17:13

No it's not.

It's ballistic. As in ballistics, the branch of mechanics dedicated to the behaviour of flying objects such as bullets.

Insomnia11 · 20/12/2011 17:14

Definitely "ballistic". Like a ballistic missile.

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 20/12/2011 17:14

Though I quite like 'bullistic'. As in china shops, I suppose Xmas Grin

ViviPrudolf · 20/12/2011 17:15

Hand up over here for 'ballistic' - even google says "Did you mean: ballistic?" when you type it in.

ColdTrukeyRemains · 20/12/2011 17:16

Ffs.

It's the sturdy of bullets.

Ergo...

honestly
