He rang earlier as he usually does and then said "I was waiting at the bus stop and there was a bloke with is kids, one was about 2 and one was the same age as DD4 (6 months) and he was feeding the baby a Fruit Shoot"

I laughed my head off, which he didnt understand at all, asked if that was ok to give babies and I said no, I was laughing because he had just ticked some boxes on MN bingo. I asked if they had a greggs sausage roll as well, and thoroughly confused he said no!

Then he ranted about what a shit father this man must have been.....:o

Today is now officially Judgey pants Monday Grin lol

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2011 17:55

OMG he ranted that the poor man was a 'shit' Father just for giving his kid a drink?

I've always maintained that Men are far less bitchy and judgemental than women, but your DH has just blown that out of the water Shock

Give him some example of what a real shit parent is like and tell him to untwist his knickers over this one.

TeamSledward · 19/12/2011 17:57

But a Fruitshoot for a 6mo, Worra?! Shock

ViviPrudolf · 19/12/2011 17:58

Can someone please bullet point for me the key issues regarding the infamous Fruit Shoot? I feel that it is necessary to have a basic grasp of this if one is to be a fully functioning member of the MN community.

TIA

namechangerbat · 19/12/2011 17:58

Oh how funny. And yes, a shitty thing to give a 6montu old

NoobyNoob · 19/12/2011 18:01

Um...hilarious stuff.

Agree wih Worra

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2011 18:01

Team whilst it's not ideal, it doesn't make him a 'shit' parent.

It was a bottle of juice fgs, not a bottle of bleach.

Bogeyface · 19/12/2011 18:04

He didnt actually say he was a shit father, that was paraphrasing on my part. He was shocked and said (iirc) it was a bit of a shit thing to do.

It was meant to be light hearted btw about how DH managed to be an MN steretype without even trying!

Oh and worra, men are faaaaar more bitchy and judgemental ime, I used to work in all male offices and they are much nastier than women!

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 19/12/2011 18:04

stereotype

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 19/12/2011 18:07

I disagree. I know men are bitchy...DH works in an all male environment and tells me this all the time.

But I think women are generally far more bitchy and way more harsh on their own sex...paricularly about appearance.

You only have to look at some of the threads on here to see that...compared to threads on more male dominated sites.

TroublesomeEx · 19/12/2011 18:08

Ha my DH's judgypants make me look positive soft and woolly at times!

Bogeyface · 19/12/2011 18:10

But this isnt about appearance, its about one mans perception of another mans parenting, which is what women do about each other too.

KittyFane · 19/12/2011 18:25

I never knew about the fruit shoot 'rule' before I came on here.
:)
6mths is v. young though.

ViviPrudolf · 19/12/2011 18:29

Arf @ the fact I have just googled "what's wrong with Fruit Shoots" to have returned a load of MN hits. You're a funny old bunch.

RitaMorgan · 19/12/2011 18:45

My DP is rubbish at Mumsnet Bingo - I once pointed out a toddler drinking cola from a baby bottle and he didn't realise it was an issue Hmm

KittyFane · 19/12/2011 19:56

:o @ vivi !

NinkyNonker · 19/12/2011 20:07

I drank a Fruit Shoot once, they used to give them away with Sainsburys kids' meals.... are amazingly sweet. I have a sweet tooth, and even I was bouncing off the walls.

So I would have been a little Hmm, but perhaps assumed that the dad thought it was a good choice as it is a fruit squash type thing.

I would have reacted just like you though op!

thepeoplesprincess · 19/12/2011 20:12

Maybe he'd taken them out to eat and there wasn't anything more suitable. I couldn't care less tbh- there's only so scandalised I can be bothered to get over a drink of squash.

NinkyNonker · 19/12/2011 20:14

I would be very surprised if anywhere that sold Fruit Shoots didn't sell water though.

LemonDifficult · 19/12/2011 20:18

HINBU. DH's mate is a dentist in Glasgow and has had mothers feeding irn-bru out of baby bottles to children in his waiting room.

scottishmummy · 19/12/2011 20:25

I've seen weans swigging ginger good style
saw wean walking and dog in buggy

DeWe · 19/12/2011 20:27

DD2 used to drink water in fruit shoot bottles when she was under a year. The little bottles were just right for her and it didn't matter if she dropped it and we lost it.

KittyFane · 19/12/2011 20:28

I think some DC must be particularly sensitive to the evils of fruit shoots and their potential to cause one to go into a frenzy.
DD has had them on and off all her life and they have never sent her crackers.
she's not got rotten teeth either

DeWe · 19/12/2011 20:29

NinkyNonker,

Actually, dd1 had her first fruit shoot on a train when I ran out of water in her drink bottle and went to the cafe to have it refilled and their drinking water supply wasn't working/had run out. The only thing suitable was a fruit shoot. Was better than coffee/tea/fizzy anyway. She was nearly 3yo though.

Hippymum89 · 19/12/2011 20:31

Fruitshoots are the work of the Devil (Robinsons, you should hang your heads in shame)
So are all the other 'No added sugar' bottles of poison.
Just google artificial sweeteners and you will never again pour that shit down your DCs throats ugh!!
Thankfully there are lots more alternatives available now that don't break the bank..
