to expect ds(3) to poke his willy down when asked?

We were in a public toilet and I was holding him over the disgusting loo and didn't have a free hand. I asked him to point his willy down as I could see it was sticking up pointing straight at me and he just wouldn't! I was asking and asking and he started saying no and I knew the wee was imminent so then I was raising my voice "POINT YOUR WILLY DOWN!" . . . "NOOOOOOOOOO!" . . . "POINT IT DOWN! DOOOOOO IT!" . . . "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" . . .

then he wee'd!

I was very lucky in the respect that he didn't put much power behind it so it didn't come anywhere near hitting me in the face but I did panic there for a minute! Instead it went over his own thigh and down his leg a bit.

Now why the bloody hell wouldn't he point it down?! I've asked and asked but he has no answer for me.

Am I expecting too much of a 3yo to just do somthing simple like that when I've asked them to do?

He's 3. Yes expecting too much for him to co-operate 100% of the time.

Methe · 19/12/2011 16:52

He's 3. YABU.

If he was 13 then you have a problem.

MrSpoc · 19/12/2011 16:53

Dam he missed Smile

MabelLucyAttwell · 19/12/2011 16:53

If he were 13, there would certainly be a problem if she took him into a public toilet!

squeakytoy · 19/12/2011 17:15

Give him a hose pipe to practice with Grin

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2011 17:17

It doesn't take two hands to hold him surely?

I used to grab mine with one arm (across their chests and under their arm pits) and point their willies down with my other hand.

Methe · 19/12/2011 17:54

Surely at 3 they are weeing sitting down?

MrsSleepy · 19/12/2011 18:03

My DS is 3 and he always wee's standing up. He likes to point it down himself and aim.

ConnorCamden · 19/12/2011 18:05

Can you imagine what other people in the toilets were thinking??? I'd be laughing so hard.

cricketballs · 19/12/2011 18:10

mine still sat on the toilet at that age...never thought to force the issue of standing up, they stood up when they were ready themselves for it in fact, youngest (albeit it he does have SN) still sits

KittyFane · 19/12/2011 18:14

YANBU. He was being awkward with you.

Sugarkane · 19/12/2011 18:23

OP were you holding him up so he didnt have to sit on the toilet? I assume you were otherwise how did it get you? Just get him to wee standing up next time. 3 years wont listen 50% of the time anyway

blackeyedsanta · 19/12/2011 18:36

hold him the other way round?

diddl · 19/12/2011 18:38

But even if he was sitting he would need to make sure it was pointing down in the toilet!

I love this! (Not so much the hovering thing for girls though...)

GlueSticksEverywhere · 19/12/2011 19:13

Yes he was weeing sitting down. He hasn't mastered standing up yet. As I sat him down his legs weren't far enough open so his willy was resting on his thigh pointing up into my face! I couldn't let go as I didn't want him to touch the seat or fall down the hole.

He used to just do what we asked him to do, now he just doesn't but doesn't seem to know why. It's weird but I suppose normal for a 3yo? (think I often expect too much)

Flisspaps · 19/12/2011 19:15

What would have happened to him if he'd touched the seat with his bum? Confused Even a dirty toilet won't hurt him if he's just sitting on it for a few seconds.

GlueSticksEverywhere · 19/12/2011 19:19

Flisspaps His bum was on it but he's small! If I let go he falls in. I didn't want him putting his hands on it though.

(PS. I don't think germ transmission is determined but exposure time. 2 secs or 20 secs the germ will still be transmitted . . . or so I think . . . I'm not a germologist)

Nothing that a good wash of the hands afterwards (as I am sure you make him do anyway!) won't sort out though :)

Chundle · 19/12/2011 19:42

I am seriously laughing my bloody ass off at this thread. Dh can't understand what on earth is so funny.
I'm laughing so much I don't even know if yabu or not

CadleCap · 19/12/2011 19:47

DH once took DS (3) to the loo- the stalls were all manky so he picked him up so he could reach the urinals.

DH just assumed DS would hold his own willie.

He didn't.

At least I had a change of clothes for DS. Xmas Grin

YANBU

olibeansmummy · 19/12/2011 19:49

Yanbu it's a simple request! Ds (2.5) is very particular about pointing his winkle down lol

BertieBotts · 19/12/2011 19:55

Chundle, look at my link Grin

BertieBotts · 19/12/2011 19:59

DS doesn't seem to understand the instruction to point his willy downwards. Anyway he will only wee standing up now so it's a moot point...

Notanexcitingname · 19/12/2011 20:09

YABU. 3 yo don't do anything they are asked on principle.

Intrigues by the assumption that to be weeing standing at 3 you'd have to have forced them Hmm. DS2 has been weeing standing up since he took interest in the toilet at 19 months. Since he imitates his big brother in all things I thank my lucky stars he's a boy, since a girl weeing standing up would be messy.
