To defriend "friend" over Christmas card

So, I have a friend. She's been a friend for years and years and has been there for me through thick and thin. However, today I received a Christmas card from her and it upset me so much that I think I will have to "defriend" her. AIBU?

Here's what she did:

  • Wrote the card in blue ink, she knows I prefer black
  • Addressed the envelope as 12a Our Street, it should be 12A - I cannot believe she does not know where we live after all this time
  • Included mine, DH and DC's names in the card, but wrote DS's name last - why did she put him last? I think she must have issues with him.
  • chose a card with a picture of a robin on when she should realise that robins really upset me after I saw one on the same day my cat died (14 years ago)
  • used a non-standard sized card. I know she must have done this deliberately to mess with my Christmas decoration scheme.
  • I only got the card today and I know she is normally mega organised. Basically she must have sent the card as an afterthought.

I have done absolutely nothing to offend her, I don't know why she would do any of the above ...

You can't de-friend her because she put enough postage on the card. To really de-friend her you would need everything you wrote AND have to pay £1 extra to the Post Office to have it delivered. YABU !!!

Yes, defriend her and do it pronto :o. Shocking.

I'm defriending the fuckers who address every envelope to DH and who haven't yet learnt how to spell my name despite 16 years' worth of cards to refer to. Seems only fair.

sitandnatter · 16/12/2011 18:31

Now my blood has boiled and I'm really really hot. The Baitch!!!

Hardgoing · 16/12/2011 20:08

I found this very funny. I can't believe how het up people get on here about spellings, names, addresses, orders of names, type of cards when actually, it's lovely anyone bothered to do one at all for them. I think less cards may be sent this year due to the recession, so getting one at all is good, I think!

Pandemoniaa · 16/12/2011 20:12

What an absolute cow! The fucking cheek of these people that one has lavished friendship on! I'd be devisstatted!

And yes, defriending is far, far too good for her. After you've gone round, torn up her card and made her eat it, return home, make a waxen image (such a useful time of year for this type of malarkey what with all the Christmas candles around) and enjoy the remainder of Advent by sticking a pin into her more sensitive, moulded parts every morning.

sitandnatter · 16/12/2011 20:14

I've already written to The Daily Mail, expect a front page story in the morning.

Groovee · 16/12/2011 20:18

I think you will need counselling to deal with all the issues over one card.

OMGs! Get rid of this dead weight, stat!

Defriend and BLOCK and report for pr0n!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/12/2011 20:22

I agree, you should block her. Absolutely disgusting, she clearly has no sense of decency.

You must cross the street to avoid her.

sitandnatter · 16/12/2011 20:22

Random how could you? The OP is devastated.

RandomMess · 16/12/2011 20:27

too much alcohol that's how

MamaChoo · 16/12/2011 20:27

Sparkling - I had no idea a 'hand-chosen' card was so vital. Here I was having mine chosen by machine all these years. My eyes are opened.

ByTheWay1 · 16/12/2011 20:27

LOL - OMG - shock thought - perhaps she sent it to you to make YOU do the dumping......

KittyFane · 16/12/2011 20:29

I feel awful for you OP, some people are just unkind and thoughtless.

Agree that she is probably sleeping with your DH and is probably about to give you a really inappropriate Christmas present too.

Defriend her before she has the chance to do any more damage.
