To donate to a womens' refuge??

Inspired by a very brave mumsnetter who has had to flee an extremely abusive relationship this past week I would just like to ask the kind people on this board to consider sending any of their unwanted/no longer needed belongings such as kids/womens clothes, toys and any unwanted toiletry gifts you may have.
These refuges run on very little and everything donated can be of use to women and their children hoping to take back their lives following abuse.

Lovely thread. I am really sad that I missed the John Lewis list.

When I was a student working for my local authority I arranged a silent auction and cake sale at Christmas and donated the proceeds to our local women's refuge.

I must admit that my own life has taken over somewhat (marriage, baby etc) and I haven't donated anything since. This thread has prompted me though and I have just emailed them to ask if they could use any toiletries or clothes.

Well done for posting OP!

OK I've just been to superdrug online, they have loads of nail polish / lipgloss etc for £1 so have put an order in.

Just posting that in case anyone wants to add a cheap extra gift for a donation

So pleased this thread has prompted people to donate and also it has given me ideas of other items that would be helpful.
During and after the Christmas period is I believe the busiest time of year for refuges and I am sure they are grateful for donations.

It is a shame that they are often stuck for space to store items though.
Thanks again for all the responses. :)

I've just called my local refuge and they're looking for smellies. They don't have enough room for clothes but really need smellies so i'll pop in before Xmas.

Thank you for posting re this xxxxx

i contacted my local refuge last year when i had a lot of clothes ds had outgrown but they said their stores were full. They did however give me the contact details for our local Centrepoint as they said they worked directly with them and they had bigger storage facilities so I passed my donation to them instead.
I've had another clearout this week and just mailed them again to ask if they have room for them or whether to get in touch with Centrepoint again.

I think they will always be happy to take smellies really.

Never heard of centrepoint, will google and see if it is a nationwide service, thanks. :)

Thanks for posting this thread.

I decided to do exactly this after reading your post, OP.

After a week of encouraging friends to donate and collecting donations I had a living room full of presents this morning, and dropped a car load of lovely new gifts off at womens aid this morning to be taken to the local refuge
:)
