I've just seen an advert for the new shades in Garnier hair colour and it's left me a bit wtf?

The new shades are the British Blonde range ......how, why , what????

Surely, given the amount of racial tension that has been bubbling in this country (women on train, Steven Lawerence) calling the new collection 'British' blonde is beyond stupid?

Or is it just me ?

How can British blonde hair be different to any other blonde hair?

whats next the 'British' brunette , the 'British' redhead collection

If the jury think I'm not being unreasonable I will make my first complaint to the advertising standards people

Tatty, you are a marvel.

I will buy them at once (although should I keep them until I'm no longer pg?)

Creamola, I get you. It's not labelling something 'British' which is the issue, it's what is being labelled; would a 'British' shade of foundation be ok?

TattyDevine · 15/12/2011 21:56

Lets not quarrel OP. What is your base colour, what colour do you want to achieve, what Garnier colour is it you think will achieve this? Run it by your Aunty Tatty first eh?

Its fairly meh marketing by the way but they aint the first and I reckon the olympics is doing it a bit...lived in Oz during Sydney 2000 and it was ridiculous the amount of nationalism!

Whatmeworry · 15/12/2011 22:00

DCs have been taking the piss out of the Ad all evening..... Clearly it's working :o

GoingForGoalWeight · 15/12/2011 22:15

I spotted a Muslim brown hairdye, a couple of years ago! Hilariuos!

GoingForGoalWeight · 15/12/2011 22:16

*hilarious

CreamolaFoamless · 15/12/2011 22:30

oh so was there was 'Sydney blonde' or 'Austrailian blonde marketed there then tatty

Slap me on the arse and call me stupid , however I am uncomfortable with this marketing campaign

OK let me sort this out for you.

(1) British blonde means not terribly blonde at all, a bit of a fail in fact.

(2) Davina McCall is in all circumstances simply awful.

Right now that's sorted I'm off to fix the Eurozone.

CreamolaFoamless · 15/12/2011 22:51

remember to pack your hair dye tinkertonk

Charming, menopausal. Ok, what about 'Aryan blonde', would that be ok? No, thought not. Until they release their 'British brown' colour (which they wouldn't, would they?) I'm sticking with my thinking that this is a really dodgy advert. Having said that, tatty I'm in awe at the hair colouring expertise. Any ideas for light brown hair that isn't mousey but is just as uninteresting?! Kind of gerbil coloured:)

CreamolaFoamless · 15/12/2011 23:25

libelulle Aryan ........I didn't have the guts to say that for fear of being called rascist or anti-racist (which I have been)

The advert didnt offend me , I just thought wtf ....thats a bir daft .

British blonde

ForkInTheForeheid · 15/12/2011 23:59

I was very Hmm when I saw this too. She actually says "tested on British hair". I mean, wtf is "British hair"? Seemed vaguely racist/at best misinformed.

WorraLiberty · 16/12/2011 00:10

Vaguely racist???

Definition for racist:
A person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others.

Just how are this company saying that with this hair dye?

DisTwinkleyMincePies · 16/12/2011 00:11

Tatty I neeeeeeeeed you.

Had hairdresser disaster (posted in S&B) a little while ago. Bad bleach job that I ended up 'rectifying' at home ie, too much bleach/little toner was bright yellow (nice) then used home dye at home, first red then dark brown so am now brunette with hair like straw.

When I next put dye on (as some parts are fading) should I just use the dark brown again or do I need to put red on again to prevent a khaki disaster?

BTW am living in Australia at the moment - everything here is 'buy Australian' 'proudly Australian' 'Are you supporting Australia?' Xmas Confused

redpanda13 · 16/12/2011 00:21

Tatty - going to have to argue with you about the 'Madrid Black'. For years my mother and I have named a particular shade of red hair dye 'Madrid Red'. Lots of old ladies in Spain dye their greying hair this shade of red. I did not realise I was being racist or xenophobic.
I have dip dye hair - tis blonde on the end going to a darker root. This means I can leave it for ages and ages as I am too skint for regular trips to the hairdresser. I shall now get some red in too take in the full hair colour spectrum. Would hate for anyone to feel left out

Okay, maybe racist is a bit strong, but seriously, British hair? I'd like someone from Garnier to define that for me.

CreamolaFoamless · 16/12/2011 01:25

I don't think 'they' garnier are being racist ......that would be silly to suggest that

I do think however that the current adverting is misplaced and misguided

xyfactor · 16/12/2011 03:39

Leave the word British alone.
It's already a bad thing to be English because even the flag implies racism to some loose-headed thinking people.

sashh · 16/12/2011 04:49

British Blonds so exist - but they are a breed of cows

YouOldSlag · 16/12/2011 08:45

Is "British Beef" racist? British Cheese? Scottish Salmon? No? then British Blonde shouldn't be. I think the world's gone mad if the word British is now racist.

My son's school had them singing Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep instead of Black Sheep. Let's not go down the same hand wringing over-senstitive road and let's save the shouts of racism for when racism actually rears its ugly head.

For my money, British Blonde is probably a shade that doesn't look like it sees the sun much.

tethersjinglebellend · 16/12/2011 10:11

Oh for the love of god, nobody is saying that there is anything wrong with the prefix 'British', just that it shouldn't be used with certain products. It's just bizarre.

I'll ask again: Would a 'British' shade of foundation be ok?

TardlyWhiptrack · 16/12/2011 10:22

They should have just called it Brassy In Blackpool - then everyone would have known instantly what they meant

cory · 16/12/2011 10:33

would Scandinavian blonde be equally racist?
