You shouldnt be made to take it as a days holiday? Especially as I havent got any holiday left this next year so they have taken a day off me for next year??? How does that work when it wasnt bloody holiday and I spent it cleaning up puke for most of the day!! Am I being a bit oversensitive???

Another teacher here. At my new school we lose a day's pay if we need to look after our own children who are ill.

No paid parental leave here either. I've never heard of any of my friends public or private sector getting it either. We all have to take holidays if a child is sick. Although saying that work paid me for the week DS was in hospital but that was a one off, not just a bug or a cold and was classed as compassionate leave.

I think that paid parental leave is an odd idea tbh. It's not that fair to non parent employees IMHO. It just seems open to abuse as it is unlikely that most patents wouldn't take the full entitlement.
