You seriously need to get over yourself.

ilovedjasondonovan · 12/12/2011 18:27

?? You expect personalised cards from other people just because you do it - is this with photos on etc. YABU

pinkyp · 12/12/2011 18:29

Yabu- or have too much money. Seriously get over yourself Wink

Kikithecat · 12/12/2011 18:29

I don't buy any personalised cards, so there! I just write more personal things in them the the people I am closest to.

Were you invented by Hallmark?

YellowDinosaur · 12/12/2011 18:31

I have seriously never ever done this.

Pils do. I've never been aware of anyone else that bothers. I wonder if they're seething because we don't bother to return the favour?

Seethe if you wish but I'd put your energy to something else as chances are they have never even noticed that they haven't warranted a personalised card this year Grin

elfyrespect · 12/12/2011 18:32

They actually send them back?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'personalised' but a card from a pack with your DS's name in sounds fine to me. (Some people, believe it or not, don't do cards at all).

Seona1973 · 12/12/2011 18:32

I have never picked out special individual cards either - I just use cards from a multi-pack for friends, family, etc. Gets too expensive otherwise

Flubba · 12/12/2011 18:32

I've made ours this year as part of our Christmas advent activity malarky and as a way to save money

I expect everyone else to do exactly the same and hand deliver me their own handmade card, accompanied by a pair of golden doves singing Christmas songs (also written specifically for the recipient). Anything less and I cut them out of my life.

Hmm :o

manticlimactic · 12/12/2011 18:33

I thought the OP just meant 'To mum and dad/grandma' etc than the moonpig type although I'm prepared to be corrected.

I sed to send those type out but at £1.50 or more a pop and a huge family it's just too expensive when all that happens is they get chucked in the bin.

mummymccar · 12/12/2011 18:34

I think that if your family observes this as a tradition then it can be upsetting when someone doesn't bother, however, as posters above have demonstrated, not everybody does this. So YANBU if that is a tradition in your family (as it is in mine btw) but YABU if you let it bother you do much that it causes tension before Xmas.

wonkylegs · 12/12/2011 18:34

I bought a cheap pack of cards and donated money to crisis - makes me feel like I've made my friends know I'm thinking about them (always write a nice message) and done something worthwhile. Some people make a lot of fuss others don't it doesn't mean they don't care just that they do things differently.

Flisspaps · 12/12/2011 18:34

manticlimactic That's what I thought as well when the OP said personalised cards.

IneedAChristmasNickname · 12/12/2011 18:34

Do you mean photo cards?
moonpig type cards?
Or ones that say Mum, Dad etc etc on the front?
I make all my close family/friends card. Others get one out of a box, what they send me is up to them!

Serenitysutton · 12/12/2011 18:34

I think she means individual cards "sister" etc rather than from a generic pack. I also send these and I do know how you feel. However already this year I've reveived a personalised "to both of you" card from someone I haven't bought one for (close friends) so I guess I'm doing the same but as I pretty much only send to cards it would be silly to send them each a £3.50 card. So I won't change my policy as such. So I can understand why you're upset for family but I guess I've done the same to my friends

Serenitysutton · 12/12/2011 18:36

Crickey have never bought a hallmark card. They're terribly ugly

YellowDinosaur · 12/12/2011 18:37

Yes I took it to mean what manticlimactic said too...

Should add that although pil choose a personalised card all they write inside is 'love from Mum and Dad'. I'd prefer a cheap and cheerful card with a personalised handwritten message myself but each to their own...

flyingspaghettimonster · 12/12/2011 18:39

Wow, I wish this was the biggest thing I had to worry about right now :D

I rarely remember to post cards even if I write them. This year I made photo cards of the kids and am sa her Mumsnetting rather htan filling the buggers out...

YABprecious.

KarenMillenCoat · 12/12/2011 18:42

I don't send Christmas cards at all and haven't since I left school many years ago.

There is a hitman looking for me, isn't there? Grin

Rhubarbgarden · 12/12/2011 18:42

Gosh. Yabu. I wondered why shops sell individual cards like that. I always thought they were for people who only had one or two friends. It would never occur to me to value a card like that over one from a multipack; how odd.

alwayswantedamrfrosty99 · 12/12/2011 18:44

i meant mum dad ETc i didnt mean i expected ppl to take all year making a card by hand for me

it is a tradition in our family

thanx for the replies,im away to get over myself now

No no not the cheesy Clinton ones! The ones you get in m&s (for example) they're blank inside- I hate verses in cards.

tiredfeet · 12/12/2011 18:49

I really really wouldn't take it personally! Seems like a lot of money to waste spend on cards
