DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 10/12/2011 12:12

We need to see photos.

DoubleLLthenanA · 10/12/2011 12:13

Probably. But you haven't SEEN them Fabby! Anyway, I had to wear whatever my gran knitted me!

Oh bless you! Grin
Without seeing pics of them, it is hard to judge the items on the Noel Edmonds Scale of Taste.

Those pesky kids don't know what's good for them, do they? Wink
You could always try a thin layer of super glue on the interior of the hats and gloves.

DottyDot · 10/12/2011 12:14

Mine don't wear anything I knit them and request that I take off anything I've knit for myself if I'm picking them up from school...

DoubleLLthenanA · 10/12/2011 12:16

I should point out that they're both under 5. It's not like they're teenagers or anything!

Well speaking as someone who 43 years after the event is still traumatised by the home made hat I was made to wear, I might be with your dc on this.

Mine was a lovely shade of brown and red with a curious pointy bit on top that my mum thoughtfully stuffed with a tissue, to make it stand up. I looked like General Hindenburg in a pushchair.

Catsmamma · 10/12/2011 12:18

you knitted them wrong!!

you should knit ear flaps and ties onto the hats, secure firmly under the chin, and add a lovely string on the mittens....fastened through the label at the neck, and only just long enough for them to stretch their arms out, very difficult to get off.

Annpan88 · 10/12/2011 12:19

bendybob your mum sounds like an evil genious

DoubleLLthenanA · 10/12/2011 12:23

Good idea, Catsmamma. I'll get knitting the extensions now...

Got it one Annpan Grin

(Hindenburg for those wondering)

UserNameNotAvailable · 10/12/2011 12:29

If its anything like the pale blue balaclava with illuminous yellow trim that my poor df was made to wear as a child then yabu!

tigermoll · 10/12/2011 12:30

Hmmm....are they itchy enough?

It is a REQUIREMENT of all hand knitted childhood garments that they are scratchy and itchy and generally uncomfortable to wear. And close-fitting around the sensitive neck area.

CrystalQueen · 10/12/2011 12:30

My mum still brings up the time I said I wanted a bought jumper instead of a knitted one. Especially since I started knitting.

Luckily DD (3) likes her fish hat.

DoubleLLthenanA · 10/12/2011 12:44

I love the fish hats! I'm looking out for a new knitting project. I've been knitting a cardigan for myself for approx. 2.5years. My kids will probably be teenagers by the time I'm finished [very slow knitter emoticon]

Annpan88 · 10/12/2011 12:48

I want a fish hat. I can only knit blankets :(

DuchessofMalfi · 10/12/2011 13:16

I've given up trying to get DD to wear anything big knitted either by me or by MIL (jumpers, cardigans etc). MIL loves to knit for all her grandchildren, and two of them have now rejected the homeknits Xmas Blush. The only thing I can get DD to wear is a hat I made for her for wearing to school. It is in muted colours, and she doesn't appear to be embarrassed by it (yet) Xmas Grin.

Pandemoniaa · 10/12/2011 13:41

Never assume any child will willingly wear a hat. In my experience, the more love and creativity that has gone into it, the more likely that the child will treat it with complete disdain if not utter disgust.

I don't knit. I didn't knit for dcs and I certainly don't knit for dgd. So far she has managed to reject a positive wardrobe's worth of headgear. As did her father. Unfortunately, my former MIL took this as a personal insult to her beautifully knitted garments. Sometimes I doubt she has forgiven him.

PS. Did nobody think of the children having to pose in those fishy hats? Their lack of enthusiasm is almost commendable.

pranma · 10/12/2011 13:49

When dgc1 was expected I set off to knit a matinee jacket :)
That was 14 years ago....last year when dgc9 turned 2 I finished the jacket and his teddy wears it with pride.
I am babysitting tonight so will try to take a photo of said teddy bear.

DoubleLLthenanA · 10/12/2011 17:41

Ha ha...the in-laws have just been. And guess what they brought with them?Hand knitted scarves for the DC! Ho ho ho.

My 99 year old gran still knits and I still wear what she knits. I love home knitted stuff, so do my kids. Wish i could knit.

EssentialFattyAcid · 10/12/2011 18:58

do you not force the kids to wear this stuff?
you are only doing half the job, surely?
