my kids wear the lovely things that their great grandmothers knit for them, and we make a really big deal of how these things were MADE for them and not bought, so are extra special.

i so wish i could knit. i'm actually a little bit to be honest. keep going OP, fingers crossed the kids see these things as more special than shop bought stuff!

Hmm... let them get cold enough and I'm sure they'll put them on!

You can knit a hat and gloves for me if you like? Cycling to work at 5am in winter is cold!

Do you ask them what they'd like you to knit and show them the pictures/ let them feel the yarn?

I do and I only knit what the kids positively want me to knit. Last years Xmas knitting was simple fingerless gloves in black or grey and they love them ( the 18yr olds have the sign of the deathly hallows from Harry potter on them- before the 2nd film and merchandise came out- she was totally chuffed!).

I'm now knitting nearly 16yr old ds a cardigan. He asked for it.

This is why I knit like mad for DS2 who can't talk yet. DS1 is a lost cause

Ds1 is eagerly awaiting his new school hat that my mum is knitting for him as he wore last year's one out. All three of my chidren wear nanna's knitting (they are 6, 3 and 7months).

I paid fiveteen quid for a knitted hat. If anyone wants their knitting appreciated they can knit me a hat
