and to warn you and every one I know not to.
They lie!
I used them as thought it would be hassle free.
I phoned them to make sure they can deliver and fit in a timely fashion rather than buy blind online
Order 2 days to come in, ok.
Deliver and fit a few days after that - great can wait for peace of mind.
Then can definately Guarantee you will have it week of 19th Dec.
Then sorry xmas and all that, it will be 4 of Jan.
Yes of course we will compensate but wait and see if you are happy with the washing machine first.
Well I no longer trust JL or believe a word their staff say and will never buy a toy, garment or anything ever again from them.
I might as well buy online.
Free delivery, same price and free returns within 10 days.
It was only a physical store and peace of mind that made me choose JL.

Someone said today that John Lewis are now using Yodel for delivery. Might explain things going down the pan recently...

MeltedAdventCalendarChocolates · 09/12/2011 20:32

MY SIL and DB used them for wedding gifts.

They were bought all these things and JL told them they would put the stuff in storage for them for whenever they want it delivered.

Only they kept taking it out of storage and selling it... after having already sold it to my bros wedding guests...

PanicMode · 09/12/2011 20:36

We bought from them recently - never again. complete nightmare from start to finish. When I phoned to complain, the (young?) man on the end of the phone said, "well that's a shame" when I said that I would never use them again.

!!

NorkyPiesWithBellsOn · 09/12/2011 20:39

Their online customer service is total crap Xmas Shock

babyhammock · 09/12/2011 21:01

Have to say I love John Lewis..my absolute fav shop
Nearly had an issue with a carpet delivery, but I threw a huge strop and to their credit they sorted it asap..

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2011 21:05

I ordered a drier from appliances online on a Friday I think. Wanted it ASAP but too late for the weekend and that coated extra anyway. So I took my chances for the following week. They delivered it on the Sunday anyway, for no extra charge. Was very impressed.

Pishtushette · 09/12/2011 21:07

I've never had a problem with them and have always found their staff to be really helpful.

elinorbellowed · 09/12/2011 21:12

I have never had a problem with them, either online or in store. Prompt, accurate and fairly priced. And the delivery staff always lovely too.

sillybillies · 09/12/2011 21:27

Love John Lewis and only ever had good service from them. Lovely staff too.

Mrsrobertduvall · 09/12/2011 21:37

My whole house is John Lewis.
Never had a bad experience...always gone beyond the call of duty.

rathlin · 09/12/2011 21:48

I want to live in John Lewis-love it. Was very jealous of the customers who got to spend the night in the High Wycombe store last year when snow was bad. Nowhere's perfect I guess but I like it and they give their employees a 25% discount (including my sister).

sunshinenanny · 09/12/2011 21:53

I love John Lewis and have always found their staff lovely and they have a nothing is to much trouble attitude Smilebut I am sorry the OP has had a problem with them. You should take it further, I'm sure they would listen.

pooka · 09/12/2011 22:51

That's really unusual. I think Jlewis is fantastic. Bloody love them - excellent staff and service.

beachholiday · 09/12/2011 23:25

The Guardian has been writing about the problems with its delivery service recently - certainly doesn't seem to match up to the traditional standards of John Lewis. Presumably they are having major teething problems with the change in their system...

Clossaintjacques · 10/12/2011 07:36

It might be because went to Johm Lewis, aren't they the primark version of John Lewis?

Angelswings · 10/12/2011 07:42

Had two Christmas orders delivered well within the 5 day promise. All present and correct!
The only thing to be slow wascthe confirmation email
Love them

Sixyearoldwoes · 10/12/2011 07:43

Rathlin-me too! You could as well! I'm tempted to buy the sylvanian families John Lewis department store for Christmas (for dd of course!!) then I could play out that fantasy!!

aldiwhore · 10/12/2011 07:49

I love John Lewis but I wouldn't buy white goods from them, Curries have a next day free delivery service and give you an exact time of delivery.

SylviaBells · 10/12/2011 07:54

OMG people got to spend the night in the shop

Is it wrong that when the snow warnings come I am going to spend an unfeasible amount of time hanging around in JL....

We've always had great service, had one blip with a delivery round Christmas last year but they sorted it out and ended up giving us a replacement product that was actually of higher value.

ObviouslyLovesTinsel · 10/12/2011 08:39

Ah but aldiwhore if your white goods go wrong Currys will look at you like you are a mere turd in the street and shrug their shoulders at you. Whereas JL will envelop you in a big snuggly hug and rub your back until the replacement arrives. Or something like that.

microserf · 10/12/2011 08:39

i used to love john lewis, which is why i made a complaint about one of their stores the other day. the staff there are so rubbish and clueless, they messed up 3 separate transactions. i thought the store should know as usually they are so good.

marriedandwreathedinholly · 10/12/2011 09:10

Compromise and chose something else that is in stock. If you do that, bet it's plumbed in by next Friday at the latest.

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 10/12/2011 09:12

I've had no problems whatsoever. I find their customer services first class and second to none.

ChairOfTheBored · 10/12/2011 09:16

I love JL. Perhaps too much. Have never had bad service from them, quite the opposite.

When I ordered flowers to be sent using the on-line service I selected the wrong bunch, for the wrong date. Phones them up very sheepishly expecting to be told that I couldn't change it, or that they would charge an admin fee, but not at all, it was simply swapped for the right things, on the right date (going to the right address... I'd was having a bad day) with not even a gentle mocking of my ineptitude.

If ever my as yet fictional future children want Saturday jobs, I'll be nudging them towards JL was hard as I can!
