To think the teacher should know my sons name by now

Son was chatting in class fair dues so at the end of the lesson son walks out of class teacher runs down the corridor shouting ken ken get back here now son ignores teacher she shouting ken get back here

My sons name is not ken

So ken comes running out the loo sorry miss she looks confused the continues after my son and asks him why he didn't answer

Well he's not ken for a start

The thing that pissed me off is she phoned to tell me what happened well what dose she want his name is not ken so why would she be expecting a reply and he got a 15 minute detention I suspect by then its was more to do with her feeling like a fool thank the talking

my dads called ken
or if my dear old nan was still alive it was kenny [which he hates] or if she called him kenneth he'd done something wrong.
one of my work colleagues always calls my dd michaela [which isn't her name but i've got to the stage now where i just let it go] my dd does have an unusual name which is a little like michaela [well the la at the end]

festi · 08/12/2011 19:30

sounds like she was pretty harrased. I would let this one go, and get your ds to appologise for being disrespectfull in the first place she may appreciate this and think about how she handles things like this in the future.

festi · 08/12/2011 19:30

although this whole thread has made me chuckle.

maypole1 · 08/12/2011 19:30

I don't know if ken is short for something else .

lljkk I would not have eveN know if she had not rung me.

I did tell son off for talking in class of course.

Probably short for Kensington

KurriKurri · 08/12/2011 19:33

Our neighbour always calls my DH Brian. It's not his name, but neighbour kept doing it even after I corrected him, so now I call DH Brian too, it's easier.

DS2 was placed next to the only other redhead in his group, who also had the same surname and spent the whole year being told off for not being the other guy Confused.

Let it go unless it happens again.

I think the teacher is having 'one of those days' and is a bit spun out. Not ideal, but if you haven't had reason to complain about her before maybe just let this weird incident go and see if she goes back to normal.

larks35 · 08/12/2011 19:35

Is he in secondary school? I'm crap at names of students but then I teach approx. 400 kids over the two week timetable so not surprising really. If she rang you, she must have realised his real name at some point. Also, if she found the time to ring you, your DS must have caused more than a minor problem in that and maybe other lessons. You don't sound very supportive btw - 'She ened the call with well he talks far to much in class could you tell him to be quite in my class, I said I will but fell fee to tell him to shut up yourself.'
She obviously has tried to get him to stop talking herself and the fact she is ringing you to tell you about it means that he isn't listening to her, but then nor are you by the sounds of things.

yellowraincoat · 08/12/2011 19:38

I constantly call one of my students Julia even though her name is Gloria. There is no Julia in the class. The students look at me like I'm odd.

Sorry Gloria.

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 19:38

Well I feel sorry for Ken tbh. I mean, what's a kid got to do to get noticed? He's only got one eye... and his parents saw fit to call him Ken.

Poor Ken Sad

MudAndGlitter · 08/12/2011 19:38

Ken's really growing on me.

As is Philip.

DigOfTheChristmasTreeStump · 08/12/2011 19:38

This might only work in Glasgow, but a neighbour us convinced my husband as Tim. He heard another neighbour saying "I think he's a Tim" and it stuck.

lljkk · 08/12/2011 19:38

I get called Shirly, and Trudy sometimes.
If I'm feeling mischievous I don't correct people, either. Wink

MudAndGlitter · 08/12/2011 19:39

Is it an eye patch or an empty eye socket?

This has no relevance I'm just really into the ken saga

thebigkahuna · 08/12/2011 19:40

Haha, flashbacks to a lesson with a supply teacher who wanted to know a pupil's name.

"Don't tell her, Dolly!" we said (a la Dad's Army)

"haha," said the teacher "now Dolly come to the front and explain yourself".

Her name was Liz Grin

YANBU OP, you can't be put on detention for not answering to the name of Ken when your name is Philip, surely.

For six years I thought my next door neighbour was called Steve. He's called Nick. Other neighbour still thinks my DP is called Jason despite getting a Christmas card every year with our correct names on it.

There's nowt so queer as Kens folk

festi · 08/12/2011 19:44

no but you can be put on detention by a pissed of teacher and you just need to suck it up. your son should have got ken to go along to the detention instead that would really f%*&ed with the poor womans head. Grin

MudAndGlitter · 08/12/2011 19:44
