AIBU to be really sad that one of my best friends is emigrating to Australia?

Her husband is a builder, they have 5 kids, and he has had no real work in the last 2 years. They have decided to move to Australia and make a new life for themselves. Whilst I am happy that they will probably be a lot more happy out there and out of this recession ridden country, i am feeling really sad about losing her, she is like a sister, and feeling really full of resentment against the shitty economic conditions that have made people with young families have to uproot and move to the other side of the world.

PS agree with previous poster - don't schedule in times to call etc, just do what you normally would so it's not 'forced' and is just natural like always x

I am on both sides... we emigrated to London 10 years ago... lost some of the old friends, but my closest bud, no way, she's still very much a part of my life, even from afar.

Since being here we have made many friends, but we have a huge social hole now as 2 couples we were BOTH very close to have emigrated themselves, to Oz and to South Africa. Ironically, my new BF and my older BF live 45 mins from each other Envy

Thank goodness for skype and whattsup and facebook and email!!!

YANBU to be sad, but with modern technology you don't have to lose her for good - with skype, email, msn etc it is possible to stay in touch - I've moved away from my homecountry 6 years ago, so see my best friend only once or twice a year now - but it has not hurt our friendship.

Please don't let her feel your resentment, the move will be hard enough for her as it is, no matter how excited she is.
