What lady said Smile

RitaMorgan · 06/12/2011 22:24

1+ formula is the same.

To get the easily led to part with their money.

Sirzy · 06/12/2011 22:25

Unless there are dietary issues (which if they are so serious then surely the family should be getting proffessional help) I struggle to see the need for 1 plus let alone 2 plus formula!

IDontDoIroning · 06/12/2011 22:26

Yes it is a marketing persons idea of something totally unnecessary to sell to parents aka walking wallets

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 06/12/2011 22:26

increase the market

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 06/12/2011 22:26

Grin I see I am not alone in this opinion

thepeoplesprincess · 06/12/2011 22:27

There's probably a genuine need for it in the case of extremely fussy eaters, but otherwise it's just an excuse to guilt-trip first-time mums into handing over unnecessary cash.

RedBlanket · 06/12/2011 22:27

I thought that moving on 1+ milk was a massive con, I didn't realise they make 2+.

ddubsgirl · 06/12/2011 22:27

to part money from parents daft enough to buy it!

kickingking · 06/12/2011 22:29

No! I have never understood this.

I am a bit Hmm about 1+ as I think there is no need, but I've never used formula so could be wrong about that.

But 2+?! wtf is that about?! What a con!

MarianneM · 06/12/2011 22:30

I remember some time ago there was a similar thread about the point of these toddler milks with added vitamins, and loads of people said that they gave them to their children so they could be sure they were getting enough vitamins, and because they were easy when they were out and about with their children. No doubt this is precisely what the manufacturers would have them think.

Agree with all the posters above about toddler formula being nothing but a marketing gimmick.

Graciescotland · 06/12/2011 22:30

Sorry this is slightly off topic but isn't there a need for 1+ formula? I bf (15mo) but I'd of assumed that most toddlers his age get a milky drink at bedtime?

letmehelp · 06/12/2011 22:32

Yes Gracie, but most have cows milk

RitaMorgan · 06/12/2011 22:32

From 12 months children can have around 350ml of full fat cow's milk a day.

Actually, even follow-on milk from 6 months is unnecessary - it's just marketing. First milk is all they need til 12 months.

BlissfulMistletoe · 06/12/2011 22:34

gracie......my son 5 don't get any drinks after 6pm otherwise he will wet the bed, and my DD 2 also as her nappy will be soaking in the morning

As soon as Ds was 1 he moved to cows milk. I don't see the need to keep the formula

strictlovingmum · 06/12/2011 22:35

Yes, Graciescotland they do, fresh milk one.Xmas Grin

Smokedsalmonbagel · 06/12/2011 22:35

I use the 1+ milk. DS2 has had relux and a strong gag so it has taken him until now not to vomit all the time. So i think I've carried on with formula because I was worried he wasn't getting enough from his diet. But I guess I may be being had. I guess its time to think about cows milk.

Gentleness · 06/12/2011 22:35

We went to formula to supplement my dwindling milk supply when I was pg with #2 - ds1 was 11mo then and I wasn't totally sure about starting him right onto whole milk. So 1+ formula filled a gap for us until he self-weaned at 13mo and then I gradually introduced whole milk over about another month. 2+ is a money-making scam IMO.

Sevenfold · 06/12/2011 22:36

there is no point.

RitaMorgan · 06/12/2011 22:37

It's a bit grim giving children reconstituted dried sweetened milk powder when there is no way adults would drink it.

DonInKillerHeels · 06/12/2011 22:38

I EBF'd my DS to 15 months. Since then, he WILL NOT drink cows milk (not allergic, just doesn't like it), but he WILL drink 1+ formula. Go figure. I'm afraid for the sake of the vitamins etc. we have given in to the formula.

atiredmum · 06/12/2011 22:39

What a load of crap. Personally I think that not only 1+ milk and 2+ milk is a con but the bloody recommendations they still put on the packets. Thankfully I had someone advising me with a common sense approach when it came time to stop breast feeding!

Graciescotland · 06/12/2011 22:39

Ah of course cows milk. Sorry am clearly too tired to think these things through...
