to warn you all of the dangers of starting threads on here?

KateMiddIeton · 06/12/2011 17:19

Just over a week ago I started a thread. As with most threads I start I expected a few replies but being in politics I expected about three or four. It's now gone viral. There's a blog, Twitter and Facebook pages, a whole #frothers hashtag trending on Twitter, a mention from the leader of the Labour Party and a second thread that's almost full.

So, AIBU to feel it is my duty to warn you? To warn you that if you will insist on posting threads on here you may just create something you can't stop?

And if you're feeling fed up with the ConDems and the cuts then get over here...

Well it's always a possibility, MN is not an exclusive club, it's out there on the WWW you know! If you feel strongly and it's out there, what's the problem? Why do you want to stop it? It's good more people have read it and debate started, yes? Otherwise just talk to you cat/plant/desk next time!

ledkr · 06/12/2011 17:40

Good grief,ie been off line for a while. Im a ps worker on mat leave and whilst ive been off the cut backs have meant i have lost my essential car users allowance even tho i am,well,an essential car user, have clients all over the country and can now only claim fuel Sad will hardly be worth the wear and tear on my poor old car.

Well done.

Thanks carocaro. If only I'd known!

Unfortunately I don't have a cat, plant or desk so I am forced to start threads on here instead

Isnt it MNers, off the back of the discussion on the thread, who started the blog?

I honestly dont get it, are you unhappy with that? Or feel people took your original thread and ran away with it? Or is this a tongue-in-cheek aibu and your just giving a thumbs up to them? Or is it your blog?

Sorry, I didnt read all of that thread, so maybe thats why im unsure what you mean.

Good discussion though, from what i saw. May have another look now.

Sevenfold · 06/12/2011 18:12

glad it worked, I have looked at it as I can't stand the name

How about a new thread to promote what we've achieved in the last week?

I'm thinking: AIBU to warn you all of the dangers of starting threads on Mumsnet?

Making sure the links are in the OP.

Sorry to c&p your post KM, but just went for a look and having read that post I get this^ thread now! I think it might have gone over the heads of those of us who werent on the original thread/s.

YANBU!! Well done all of you Smile

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 06/12/2011 18:27

Does the Leader of the Labour Party perchance believe that you are Kate Middleton?

Anniegetyourgun · 06/12/2011 18:31

Congratulations, KM.

Since I don't blog, tweet or hang out on the evil Facebook, if anything I posted ever went viral I'd be the last to know. Which would be a bit sad really.

KateMiddIeton · 06/12/2011 18:32

Yes sorry JV, doing tea time and not posting v coherently Grin

DS has a biscuit and Cbeebies so I'm fully engaged again!

Sevenfold - It's not meant as a derogatory term for epilepsy. . It's meant to stand for the fact that we are frothing with rage and indignation at the ConDem cuts.

I am not offended by the #frothers hashtag, and I have uncontrolled epilepsy. I get more offended by people calling me an 'epilpetic' rather than a person with epilepsy, as it reduces me to the sum total of my illness, rather than the epilepsy being just one facet of my full person. And though I have been called many things since my epilepsy diagnosis - r*d, s*z, and breakdancer amongst other things - I have never been called a frother in a derogatory manner. And if I was now - I'd be telling that person that yes, I AM a frother - a #frother!

The #frothers was run past me, and I said that though I couldn't speak for every person with epilepsy, I wasn't offended by it, because it wasn't meant in a derogatory way at all when used in this context. HTH.

HuntyCat, #frothers.

CardyMow · 06/12/2011 18:45

AARGH! Spelling fail 'epileptic', not 'epilpetic'. FFS! In too much of a rush as am off out!!

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 06/12/2011 18:49

I am proud to be a #frother

We should have badges Wink

woollyideas · 06/12/2011 18:55

I want a #frothers badge too!
