...to think In the Night Garden is a pile of shit?

telly was on in the background and I've just seen how awful it is. No proper spoken word from any character, they all have stupid names and IMO seem rather mentally deficient.

And the sense of scale is all wrong.

And some of the names sound like perverse sexual practices.

And it is clearly racist against the blue wattingers who don't get nearly as much screen time as the red pontipines. I bet they are on benefits to pay for all those brats too, none of the parents ever go out to work.

hiddenhome · 04/12/2011 19:27

We liked the Night Garden a lot, but they're too old for it now. I thought it was very imaginative and I liked the little people Smile

I forgot to say that I also loathe and abhor the noises the birds make, and the fact that they are not to scale. Angry

It's awful.

CocktailQueen · 04/12/2011 19:29

I hate it. I hate Teletubbies too. Inane crap.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 04/12/2011 19:29

If you're laid up on the sofa with a temperature, it all seems to make complete sense. Grin

MrsWembley · 04/12/2011 19:30

I keep expecting Jacobi to say 'I've done Shakespeare, you know!' after he's sung Upsy Daisy's song.

cheekeyiownitmonkey · 04/12/2011 19:30

And Upsy Daisy sounds like a bint out of a porn film

kirrinIsland · 04/12/2011 19:37

DD seems to like it so I guess I'm stuck with it for a while, but the perspective of the ninky nonk and pinky ponk drives me nuts every time I see it......

bebemoojem · 04/12/2011 19:38

It is one of the best young children's shows I've ever seen.
It lays down the ground work to understand stories (with the repetition/retelling of the story at the end).
It shows how routine occurs even tho all aspects of the routine are not identical every time. I.e. the beginning is the same every time (either nonkynonk or plinkplonk) the middle is different but the end is the same with a story and everyone bedding down for the night.
It has wonderful moral lessons -no sassiness or meanness; when negative things happen they're dealt in a positive and caring manner (no one is blamed or told they're bad).
Its full of imagination and the perspective of a child.
Such loveliness.:)

JingleAllTheSoddingWay · 04/12/2011 19:38

I love ITNG

So should MN really.

Upsy Daisy & Iggle Piggle "Making out in Public" on the Ninky Nonk,

Upsy Daisy and her indecent exposure,

Macca Pacca with OCD,

The Pinky Ponk farting in public,

The pontipines with their 8 children all sharing a one bed house and feeding the kids gruel whilst the parents have nice things (obviously on benefits)

All that's missing from a MN full house is P&C parking and BF/FF

JustifiedAncientOfMuMu · 04/12/2011 19:41

Well I'm pretty sure you're not it's target audience...

Pascha · 04/12/2011 19:41

DH thinks the Pontipines are like the family from Shameless and the Wattingers are their embarrassed neighbours who do their best to hide. He mentions benefit cheating too. He thinks Derek Jacobi was probably drunk when he agreed to do the narration and laughing all the way to the bank. Xmas Grin

ZhenTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 04/12/2011 19:43

YANBU

I can't stand it, the plinky plonking drives me mad, but it was invaluable to give me time to take a quick moment to shower/cook/mumsnet.

SardineQueen · 04/12/2011 19:44

I really like ITNG. DD1 is now 4.5. I first loved it because it hypnotised her and gave me a bit of peace Grin Then I realised that it was a bit hypnotising for me too. I started to look forward to the Pontipines dance and them hiding in the teeny tiny hole. Then DD2 came along an was duly hypnotised, when the theme tune plays she runs up and I have to do "round and round" on her hand an say the words and sing her the song. And now when the theme tune starts up I get a bit emotional and well up. I have a horrible feeling that when I am old and senile I'll be sitting in a chair going "da da de do do de do dooo" and imagining a little boat sailing off into the night...

Strange.

I am quite normal generally, as well.

SardineQueen · 04/12/2011 19:45

The pontipines are obviously part of some strict religious order BTW. That much is clear.

KateMiddIeton · 04/12/2011 19:45

YABU. It has given me my life back (if my life could be condensed to 20 minutes per day).

The End

crashdoll · 04/12/2011 19:46

Macca pacca washing everyone's faces is beyond strange. That's just weird! I thought he was a baby but a 4 year old told me "of course he's a not a baby, he's a dwarf!".

The songs are great though!

WTAF · 04/12/2011 19:49

I was so so so happy when DS was old enough to watch ither

WTAF · 04/12/2011 19:51

? Damned phone! Meant to say I was so glad when DS outgrew ITNG and we could watch other things. Now he is actually learning useful stuff from Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse etc. ITNG was just nonsense.

AnaisB · 04/12/2011 19:53

I like it and DD loves it. Can't stand the Waybulloos (sp) though - just cos of their voices.

Toplistmaker · 04/12/2011 19:57

Ha SardineQueen I also think the pontypines are in a cult of some kind. It does bring an illusion of calm to my house.. it is therefore, a good thing. Has also been known to put my husband to sleep : )

SardineQueen · 04/12/2011 20:23

Back to back repeats of mickey mouse clubhouse are used by US military to torture terrorism suspects.

FACT.

crashdoll · 04/12/2011 20:25
