AIBU to complain about my christmas tree?

I know, I know it's not the biggest issue in the universe but I feel a bit peeved.

Every year I order a real tree from a particular company, it is quite expensive and it's my own main christmas luxury that I plan/budget for carefully.

Every year the tree's have been really lovely, bushy, lush, nicely shaped.

This year I ordered the same size/type tree that I always get. It arrived the other day and it's very disappointing. It just looks shit. It's too big for the stand we have for the alleged size/type of tree that it is, so it leans. It's sparse and even when dressed it looks rubbish!

Would it be grinchy of me to complain? I feel like I've been stiffed TBH.

ps. Yes, I understand it's a non problem in the great scheme of things and I am very fortunate not to have anything else to moan about Xmas Grin

pps. Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

Of course you can complain if you feel the quality of the product is poor. Just because it's a Christmas tree you don't have to suck up any old rubbish. This does not make you the Grinch, or Scrooge. You are entitled to be furious if they dare to suggest that you are.

MabelLucyAttwell · 03/12/2011 11:32

People might not be aware that Christmas trees sold to us are not all the same variety of fir tree. It's therefore possible probable that you have a different variety from last year's tree.

It's meant to be a Nordmann Gold Star How can I tell if it's an imposter?!

I can't phone and complain 'cos they have a nice wee woman answering the phone (she's scottish) and she ends every call with a lilting 'Merry Christmas'

I like to imagine that she's married to santa.

My tree is exactly the same size and shape every single year.

I'm sure you can guess why.

alistron1 · 03/12/2011 11:44

I do have an artificial one (gold!!) I was telling it this morning how pleased I was that it never let me down. Even when my kitten was half way up it, it still looked good.

The nice wee woman is a marketing strategy. Phone and complain.

randommoment · 03/12/2011 11:55

If the lady in reception is a real sweetie, she's not going to be upset when a valued regular customer rings up and very nicely and sorrowfully explains that this year's tree is not up to their usual high standards and could they check and see if a mistake hasn't been made.

alistron1 · 03/12/2011 12:05

I have tried phoning and there is no one there. I will keep at it. I have re read the product description and am going to complain.

Sorry wee scottish lady Xmas Smile

The wee scottish lady is still Mrs Santa in my imagination, and xmas is saved!!!

Hurrah!

mumblechum1 · 06/12/2011 12:55

I love this thread Xmas Grin

mumblechum1 · 06/12/2011 12:55

Gawd bless us one and all!

QuintessentiallyFestive · 06/12/2011 12:56

But if you want an identical tree year after year, you DO know what you must do?

Now TWO trees have been chopped and transported all the way to you, imagine the costs to the environment, and the carbon footprint!

A whole tree, no, TWO whole trees has been slaughtered, just for you. Sad

Crosshair · 06/12/2011 12:58

Save the trees!

ObiWanWithBellsOn · 06/12/2011 13:54

What are you going to do with the first one OP? Are they taking it back?

Poor little tree - how will it fulfil it's Christmas destiny Xmas Sad ?

It sounds like a sad Christmas story, the poor tree that wasn't good enough. All it's inferior needles will wilt through shame and disappointment..

SnapesMistressofMerriment · 06/12/2011 14:24

Nope, the tree did it on purpose, it deserves to go in the chipper, don't let them make you feel guilty OP.

alistron1 · 06/12/2011 14:24

Quint has made me feel like the Henry VIII of the christmas tree world.

And I must say that I kinda like it Xmas Wink

The original tree will go outside with a sign saying 'free to a good home' Xmas Smile

What a lovely thread.

apocalypsedreams · 06/12/2011 14:44

Your quite right to complain.
Seems to me loads of people are getting their xmas trees just right this year and are very proud of them - judging by the FB photos. I think it all could be to do with the economy and everyone being so skint. Okay so there aren't many presents under it this year - but the tree is amazing. Xmas Grin

Although I do feel sorry for the sub-standard tree.. Hope it gets a new home soon. :)

valiumredhead · 06/12/2011 14:46

really lovely, bushy, lush, nicely shaped Snort!!!!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/12/2011 14:49

That is a good result Xmas Smile

We buy ours from a local Forestry Commission site. The tree is cut in the morning and then you take it home the same day, and you can choose one that is just to your liking.
No carbon footprint apart from whatever fuel you use in the car to get there.

alistron1 · 06/12/2011 14:54

You know bridezilla's? I am a christmaszilla. I make no apology Xmas Smile

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 06/12/2011 15:01

You do realise, that it doesnt really matter what your tree looks like, because in about a fortnight, its going to be completely devoid od anything remotely resembling a needle, dont you?! Confused

Zippylovesgeorge · 06/12/2011 15:04

IMO It smacks of Margot Ledbetter and her sending Christmas back as it didn't come up to specification - tree was 6 inches?? to short.
