Is 34 to old to get into teaching?

I hope not :(

I am 29 and have applied to do a History degree starting next September as I would really love to teach History at Secondary level. I have always wanted to do it, but having the DC's got in the way, and I dont think I had the confidence before.

But by the time have done a PGCE I will be 34. Is that too old for an NQT?

To be honest with a 3rd class degree I think you will struggle to get a job, particularly in this competitive market.

Ahh thanks for that, I did wonder if that would be a problem. I would hope that my years in industry might compensate for it.

Kara, look into the GTP programme. I'm not sure about their minimum requirements, but they might be more likely to take into account your industry, rather than academic, background.

'too old' not 'to old'. for a teacher, even a wannabe one that's bad.

Thank you! It was pretty annoying I was in line for a 2-1 when I completed my second year but I spectacularly fucked up my final year, and wasn't in a finacial position to repeat it - and didn't want to.

sorry just seen you have better grammar in your explanation. will assume a typo :)

An acquaintance of mine did his PGCE age 40.

No it isn't too old. And having a bit of life experience behind you will probably help.
