Pictures of DP holding his passport photo page and photo driving licence

Earlier I was sat at the laptop and DS1 was putting giant chocolate buttons in his eye sockets (dont ask Grin ) and the chocolate was melting all over his face. I asked him to go wipe his face, but before he did so I wanted him to see how funny he looked and as he's only little (2.7) and cant see himself in the mirror, I decided to show him what he looked like on the webcam

I'm not sure how other webcams work but ours can take pictures or videos. In the webcam programme there were close-up pictures of DP holding up the photo page of his passport and also of his photocard driving licence. I thought it was bizarre and asked him what they were for. He got a bit funny and dismissed them as nothing. By this point my suspicions had been aroused so I kept questioning and he said there more I ask, the less likely he is to tell me, and then he left the room. I went to find him a few minutes later, and without me saying anything he said that he could sense an arguement starting Hmm

I am really intrigued to know what they could've been for. The pictures were taken back in July

So, people of Mumsnet, AIBU to a.) Want to know why DP took the pictures and
b.) Want to know if you know what it could've been for

DP has taken out a payday loan behind my back before but wouldn't have thought the company would need pictures...maybe? I really dont know

Would it be for a porn site? I admit that I lack libido, and in principal I am not too bothered if he uses it, as it is better than physically cheating. I know he has looked at porn on the computer before so it wouldn't be a shock if this is what it would be for

He was proving to someone online that he really is MrSardineJam?

squeakytoy · 01/12/2011 19:03

Loan sites will definately require photo I.D.

Porn sites definately wouldnt.

Wish I could remember when he took out the payday loan, i'm sure it was before July. When I found out he took it out and approached him about it, he did apologise and say he wouldn't take out another and if he needs money he can ask me, as I do earn considerably more than him

Surely though a payday loan place would need a proper copy of ID and wouldn't accept a picture of him holding documents?

Could it be for a gambling site?

Gosh I feel naive!

How old are the pics on his passport and License? Maybe he was doing something silly like comparing how much older he looks. You know, having his face right next to an old pic of his face. something I would do

BillComptonstrousers · 01/12/2011 19:11

Sounds like those foreign scammers who try to 'prove' to women who they are when they are trying to get money out of them! Grin

Sounds a bit dodgy, has he not given you an answer yet??

squeakytoy · 01/12/2011 19:11

I have joined many gambling sites.. they have never required photo I.D.

I have taken jewellery to the pawn shop, (who do payday loans etc) and they will require photo I.D.

Sorry, but I would say he has been trying to either get a loan, or open an on-line bank account. Whatever it is, it is finance related.

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/12/2011 19:12

I'm thinking more of an online flirtation;

Her "How do I know you are not a 95 year old woman from Nigeria?"

Him "Here, I'll show you!"

BillComptonstrousers · 01/12/2011 19:16

Surely if it is photo id, they would need a scanned copy of the original, not an acual photo of the person holding it?

SardineJam · 01/12/2011 19:16

The photo on his passport is about 7 years old and driving licence about two years old. You can't really see his face in the pictures as the main part of the picture is of the documents and his fingers holding them

But again who would accept ID presented like that, when it could easily be fake? Surely they'd want to see proper forms of it?

I'm currently bf'ing DS2 so haven't probed anymore

How bizarre

SardineJam · 01/12/2011 19:21

Katie where would he do something like that? A dating site? I would be very surprised if it was that because DP, even after over 4 years is very besotted with me to the point that I get irritated by it Blush

Very odd, he is probably wracking his brains trying to come up with a plausible answer to your question!

FabbyChic · 01/12/2011 19:24

Why would he need to ask you for money, surely your resources are shared equally.

alysonpeaches · 01/12/2011 19:24

If it was an online flirtation, he would find a more flattering picture. I think its the money thing.

rhondajean · 01/12/2011 19:25

Id check his internet history. And never trust an overly besotted man.

And I am the least suspicious of any of my friends. But that is outright weird.

Bourbonchops · 01/12/2011 19:29

Had a little google and found that some betting companies require a photo of you holding your I.D before paying your winnings.
Could that be a possibility?

SardineJam · 01/12/2011 19:30

Fabby I earn considerably more than DP, we put an equal amount into the joint account to cover bills and whatever is 'left' is ours, however I do buy the food and DS' clothes etc, as DP is only left with a couple of hundred to buy his lunch, pay mobile bill, pay his football subs etc. I dont ask what he spends it on, as its his, like I have my money and can 'waste' it on my things

Those pictures certainly arent flattering

Definitely something financial I would say.

Mum1369 · 01/12/2011 19:32

I was thinking a visa, but again don't think they would accept that. My guess is finance related too.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 01/12/2011 19:39

How much is 'considerably more'? OK, you're covering food and your child's clothes, but how much is that a month compared to the difference in your earnings?

I'd assume it's financial because he feels short on cash.

SardineJam · 01/12/2011 19:39

Rhonda I always delete internet history because it really slows the system down, so I have shot myself in the foot there

Bourbon you could actually be right, did they say why they ask for it? Is it for a big amount then?

OP posts:
rhondajean · 01/12/2011 19:47

I delete it too so DH doesnt know how much time I spend on MN, but I know most people dont.

We work our money exactly the same way you do, btw, its not a thread to debate your finances, it obviously works for you (and us)

SardineJam · 01/12/2011 19:48

About £600 mildly. He certainly isnt on the breadline though, but the time he took out the payday loan was because he gambled all he had left and hadn't taken into consideration that he needed money for the rest of the month, and he took responsibility for this, albeit, by stupidly taking out a loan, he said he had been too embarrassed to ask me to help him out as it was his own fault he was short on cash
